As a longtime member of the Maryland Food Collective and someone who knows the situation personally, noone on this site has made any attempt to understand the situation. First, the student did receive service, the worker simply said SHE was not going to serve the student and passed her on to someone else. Admittedly, this must have been humiliating for the student, but lets be honest here. Second, the worker took offense not at the phrase I Stand With Israel, but that the shirt proclaimed the student as a zionist. Zionism is a political theory, one that not every Jew agrees with, so can this really be called anti-Semitism? Real oppression happens all over the world, but don’t jump down someone’s throats when such a small action happens. One of the coolest, most accepting places any college campus has ever known was almost shut down because of one worker’s emotional reaction and what can only be called a high-powered blitz from various Jewish organizations. What the worker did was not officially sanctioned by the Co-op, only her right to express what she says. If anyone on this forum can explain to me how suppressing the political voice of a citizen of this nation through fear is what makes us the USA, not Saudi Arabia, pass it on. And to the individual who wished he could bruise the worker, I’m glad cooler/smarter heads prevailed on both sides. Can it be eye for an eye when I haven’t actually physically harmed you?

Has the University spoken about this incident? Until they do, and make it clear that anti-semitism will not be tolerated, the Feds should cut off all funding to the University, and so should the state of MAryland.

This is the USA, not Saudi Arabia. Thank GOD!

Well, damn… here I am, Jewish, with a full platter of food in the check-out line at the co-op and the dhimmi cashier doesn’t wish to check me through.

Now, what am I gonna’ do with all this food I can’t buy? I guess I’ll decorate the cashier.
