I'm British and I wish that our soldiers were appreciated over here as yours are over there (not by the Daily Kos and Huffington Post crowd obviously, but at least there are still sections of society there that remember what sacrifice means and appreciate their military).

God bless all of those who have risked their lives serving their country and protecting the people in Iraq and Afghanistan. You're the best of us and I wish you all safe passage home to your families when your tour of duty is over.

It's nice to hear whenever soldiers are shown our appreciation by such a gesture as this, paying for their meal in a restaurant, etc.

I'll never forget when I was in uniform in downtown San Antonio... I got in line for an ice cream cone and when I went to pay, the guy at the register said, "Yours is free."

Another time, I took my wife out to a Korean restaurant right after I got off work (late again), someone paid for us before I even got the bill...

Before I even came on active duty, I was living on "the wrong side of the tracks" in a neighborhood where drugs were sold, and you'd occasionally hear a gunshot. I was a poor college student, and one of the only white guys in the area. I'll never forget walking home one "ROTC uniform day" and being approached when a big guy broke off from his group looked me straight in the eye (I thought he was going to try to kill me or something...lol) and said, "I just want to thank you." That probably hit home the most. My reply that day, and to everyone who has thanked me since has been, "that's what makes it worthwhile."

It's true- we signed up to serve- sure you hear about the bonus or education, or whatever, but that's not what it's really about. We signed a blank check saying do with me what you will in the name of freedom and the Constitution of the United States of America. I wound up flying a desk, not by choice, but that's where I was asked to be. Thousands of others fill more dangerous roles because that's where they are asked to be. Whatever the case may be, we often face ridicule from the leftists, but even that is worth going through so long as there is still at least one American thankful for their freedom and aware they enjoy it because of the sacrifice of others.

A thousand people marching against you shouting leftist propaganda makes you sad, but as long as you know there are people who appreciate what you signed up for, it's worth fighting for.

Hi Angel,
I' ve been posting on my new blog.I did not leave a "I have moved" notice on the old blog because I got a recent spate of nasty comments there and I did not want the nasty woman to follow me to the new blog!
This was an excellant post.I always think these soldiers need so much more respect from us.I hate going to the airport because i always want to cry when I see them getting ready to board flights at Hartsfield airport! Some of them are so young, its heartbreaking.Considering the sacrifice they are doing for us you would think they would always be given a heroes sendoff/welcome instead of being treated like "untouchables".

i would gladly give a uniformed person my seat and would expect NO applause - this lady was so gracious, saying he deserved it for all he'd done for our country.

i heard this one this morning on the news - there was another flight which had the soldiers on board now being allowed into the terminal in oakland and they had to get off the plane onto the tarmac - of course, oakland had some hokey libtard excuse.
