FatherS DaY OpenTrackback Weekend

Fatherhood is the one job that you can get without the slightest degree of experience, knowledge or talent (despite what you may hear to the contrary on Father’s Day). For that reason, when a friend had his first child recently, I quickly rattled off the most important things that I have learned as the father of three boys and a girl:

Don’t wear white shirts while changing boys (they consider it a type of canvas); the easiest way to extract material from noses is a hot bath (except for cheese sticks); always check your briefcase for toy guns before entering a courthouse; and always check the children for captive animals before leaving a forest.

First American unit formed 1747 Known as “His Majesty’s first Independent Company of American Rangers.” Though it served England, the Rangers were American soldiers.


French & Indian War

1758 It began on American soil and was brought to Europe, that war was part of what the French and British called the “Seven Years War.”

Panama Invasion
1989-1990 It was so successful that troops were withdrawn in two weeks. Some remained to support reconstruction and installation of a new government.

First Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm)
1991 A coalition force of 34 nations, the United Nations effort was led by U.S. Army General H. Norman Schwarzkopf.

‘FIRE DAD’ EYES SUIT VS. CITY
..It is believed the fire was caused by a space heater. ..

The claim charges ………..the FDNY “failed to respond in a timely manner to extinguish or control the fire.”

FDNY officials declined to comment last night. At the time, the FDNY said that people in the house had tried putting out the fire themselves and didn’t call 911; then, after a neighbor called, the Fire Department arrived 3 minutes and 23 seconds later, officials said.

“There were a variety of things here that could have prevented this fire,” Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in the aftermath.
String of Factors Contributed to Deadliness of Bronx Fire

Two smoke detectors that might have alerted residents stayed silent because neither of the alarms had batteries.

Firefighters who might have extinguished the blaze quickly sat un-summoned in their station house for several critical minutes because the residents didn’t immediately dial 911, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.

The house was also exceptionally crowded.

Authorities said 22 people from two related families lived in the modestly sized home, including 17 children.

“Did a lot of people living in a confined space contribute? It probably did,” Bloomberg said.

The father, a cab driver who does not have U.S. citizenship, returned to Mali to bury his family, having been granted special permission to return to the United States afterward.

Suing for negligence. Right.

2-The residents did not immediately dial 911.

3-The house was exceptionally crowded.

Wake up and smell the personal responsibility dude.

Yes my sweet friends, years have blown passed since I worked down at Ground Zero. And while I welcomed the unforeseen honor to become the eyes for the masses, I never forgot for a moment that I was on hallowed and sacred ground.

One of a myriad of blessings was my good fortune to get to work side by side with the rescue and recovery teams in New York City.

Of all those I worked with, however,(they all displayed fierce dedication), FDNY impressed me most.

I observed nightly, as our Firemen looked for their missing sons and brothers through the rubble.

I attended one too many wakes with empty coffins.
I was there when civilians were found. The Firemen were just as loving, gentle and thorough as if the victim were their own relative, tucking the flag around them as they carried them in their loving arms.

They worked day and night down at what we called “The Pit.” The magnitude of that empty, giant hole well exceeds beyond the 17 acres of land.

It was simply incomprehensible to our senses.

FDNY.
It’s who they are. That is why they didn’t think twice about dashing and tearing into the burning Twin Towers to try and rescue people they did not even know.

As for me, I say ppftttttttttt to this lawsuit and the ingrates who filed it.

Love and more love to my friends in the FDNY who are still slowly and painsakingly recovering from the appalling loss of friends and family inflicted on Sept.11.

CursinG?..It’s Morally WronG

With all due respect to my blogging buddies and friends who have been known to use a “colorful word” or two.

The nation’s leading champions of televised profanities celebrated a victory for the “First Amendment” when the Manhattan-based Second Circuit Court of Appeals rebuffed the FCC’s attempt to fine Fox Entertainment for dropping F- and S-bombs on prime-time television by Cher and Paris Hilton’s pal Nicole Richie, in front of millions of young children.

Judges vs. the FCC
Clearly, they do not agree that the FCC is “arbitrary and capricious” in trying to do something to stop the increasingly bad language fouling the public airwaves. What the networks had was a couple of judges in New York who have flouted the will of the American people.

Cursing is not mostly harmless.
Even if our society currently contains no moral compass or standard through which all good men and women navigate.

After all ….What are words? Words are vessels with meaning.

Can we not be “diverse” even in our communication? some howl.
Certainly…Diversity can be a fine thing.

Interacting with people of diverse beliefs, customs, and tastes, can expand our horizons, and potentially raise our consciousness to some potential true beliefs, innovative customs or novel tastes.

But moral diversity my friends is not quite the same as cultural diversity.

Diversity in moral behaviour is not always a fine thing indeed.
Rapists and murderers may add to “moral diversity” but not exactly in a way that is particularly valuable.

There are violations of etiquette and differences in cultural norms that are not considered moral transgressions.

Eating chicken drumsticks with your bare hands is not sinful, yet some would say it is in “poor form.”

More extreme violations may be considered sinful however. Hurling racial epithets, for example, is viewed as immoral as well as a breach of etiquette by most sane people.

The use of certain forms of language is not simply “poor form”, but is morally wrong.

We can’t always rely on our perfectly cool, rational selves to be the barometer of what is right, and what is good, now can we?

Rags to Riches is racing’s queen for a day.

The fabulous filly outdueled Preakness winner Curlin in a breathtaking stretch run and won the Belmont Stakes by a head Saturday, becoming the first of her sex in more than a century to take the final leg of the Triple Crown.

“My hat is off to Rags to Riches,” said Curlin’s trainer, Steve Asmussen, who never gave up hope his chestnut colt would prevail in the dramatic final strides.

Rags to Riches became the third filly to capture the Belmont — Ruthless took the first running in 1867 and Tanya won in 1905. Only 22 fillies have tried the Belmont, with Rags to Riches the first since Silverbulletday finished seventh in 1999.

“It was really giving me goose bumps thinking about the crowd, getting so pumped up about the filly running against the colts”.. ….

The Beverly LaHaye Institute has just released data revealing another dimension of the problems facing children when their parents are not married.
The Problems of Pre-Term and Low Birth Weight Babies
First, marriage rates have dramatically decreased –– from a high of 149 marriages per 1,000 unmarried women aged 15-44 in 1970 to a low of 70 marriages per 1,000 unmarried women in 2005.

Further, the percentage of pre-term and low birth weight babies continues –– along with the percentage of non-marital births –– to climb. ..

Around the world today, “children’s rights” advocates are talking about doing things “for the children.”

When a politician wants to promote a policy, it is often sold (no matter how tenuous the connection) as being “for the children.”

Yet, those same liberal advocates typically define “family” as any assortment of caring individuals, and the politicians have failed to support marriage through favorable tax treatment, acting as though marriage were some sort of optional luxury. Yet, there is no way to sugarcoat the fact that women who are not married are at significantly higher risk of having pre-term and low-birth-weight babies.

But in the politically correct world foisted off on us by the feminists and their liberal allies in the media, few in government have the temerity to comment about (and certainly not to advocate) marriage …………

Let’s be honest friends…Ya can’t tell a Lefty Lib that when pursuing their own momentary, fleeting, physical pleasure..it may actually have lasting consequences, and impact more than on just the selfish individual making those choices.

There is a wealth of research, outside of simple common sense (which seems to have gone the way of extinction along with the dodo bird) to support the claim that children are the most successful academically, emotionally, and socially when raised in a two parent …which means -biological mother and father..and oh yes……. “married to each other”.. family.

Those who oppose same-sex relationships because of their faith do not feel particularly threatened by same-sex marriages, but rather believe that the relationships themselves are inherently immoral and sinful.

And…er……..Some guy shacking up with a girl, getting her pregnant and not even honoring her enough to make a permanent, legal commitment. Yes, aint love grand.

Promiscuity leads to more harm in our society than many crimes considering its widespread impact, the ultimate financial costs to society , not to mention the criminals it spawns due to neglect and oftentimes, abuse of unwanted children.

It’s a dang shame that individuals can’t be held legally responsible and even punished for irresponsible sexual conduct , which harms society as much if not more than other crimes do.

Ah, the Libs shout that “harming society” is a vacuous and nebulous standard from which to form policy or judgement.

That is a bold faced lie. Free consensual sex creates poverty and crime, spreads AIDS, and stds, which in turn, ruins neigborhoods and entire communities. And who pays the bills?
Citizens have to pay increased taxes for more police , fund more and more “programs for the needy”,for welfare and WIC to feed the unwanted babies of teen mothers.

For those who still have morals…. marriage is viewed as one of the building blocks of a society. A father and mother create family bonds which are unique and unparallelled.

Children are ideally brought up in two parent homes, where moral values are passed on from one generation to the next. Traditions, beliefs, and cultural norms are passed on through the family from parents (a father and mother) to children.

But yet again…the same ole same ole intellectually impoverished arguments from the kool-aid drinkin, hard core Libs.

All ya need is Love.
Uh huh.

It seems like an elementary observation, but according to the Iowa Children’s Museum’s newest exhibit, Ind-onesia: Land of Diversity, if we looked at our similarities first and differences second, we would already live in peace.

…the six-month interactive exhibit began with a traveling art display titled The Many Colors of Is–lam……….. assembled the show as a means to promote cultural awareness for the differing shades of Is-lam – the world’s second largest religion – after the reactionary backlash post-9/11.

THREE Christian high school girls were beheaded as a Ram–adan “trophy” by Indonesian militants who conceived the idea after a visit to Philippines jihadists, a court heard yesterday.

The girls’ severed heads were dumped in plastic bags in their village in Indonesia’s strife-torn Central Sulawesi province, along with a handwritten note threatening more such attacks.
The note read: “Wanted: 100 more Christian heads, teenaged or adult, male or female; blood shall be answered with blood, soul with soul, head with head.”

The main prob. with Libs is their devotion to the concept of freedom of religion. Sure, it’s a lofty concept and ideal indeed; but this devotion blinds them to one principal reality: Izlam is not just a religion, it is a political system.

In fact, it is more of a political system than anything else, which just so happens to be diametrically opposed to our own. It abhors freedom of choice, freedom of religion, rights for women, freedom of speech, ..um basically freedom of anything that we so cherish.

The only thing one is free to do in Izlam is become a Muzlim, and submit.

Muzlims characteristically destroy property, threaten death and bodily harm to anyone who dares speak out against them all around the globe.

They fund terrorism throughout the world. They burnt embassies and murdered innocents over a cartoon…

Throughout Europe Muzlims have been responsible for torturing or murdering people who have written out against Izlam or made movies, and other forms of art.

And these lil kiddies are goin to celebrate “Muzlim art”?

What do Izlamic teachers (Im-ams) and religious leaders have to say about daily terror at the hands of Muzlims…Well, of course they claim these (thousands of daily) actions are “just undertaken by warped loners claiming to represent Izlam”, which needless to say is quite against the will of the majority or authority. Uh huh.

The Libs in Iowa don’t wish to look hard at the dark places of humanity do they. They would prefer to ignore the the top jih-adi rants of the day and old-school Jew-hatred emanating from the Muzlim world daily, hourly, minute by minute.

Muzlims have no tolerance whatsoever for the Hindu, the Jain, the Bahai, the Atheist, the Taoist, the Animist, the Mus–lim who reverts, the Buddhist, the Zoroastrian, the Shinto, the Sikh, and only very veryyyyyyyy limited acceptance for the Christian and Jew, who may live in Izlam lands as “dhi-mmis” so long as they pay their special tax, don’t fix up their churches and synagogues, and make dang sure they aren’t as high as a mos-que or even the house of an important Muzlim.

Oh, and yes, they must carry themselves in a demeaning manner, head bowed, so as to express at all times submissiveness to any and every Muzlim.

I aint never heard of a secular Childrens’ Museum doing a “Let’s celebrate the colors of Jews and Israel” week “as a means to promote cultural awareness”….have you?

Makeup For … Men?

Don’t be surprised if very soon your toiletry kit contains not only shaving cream, deodorant and toothpaste, but concealer, oil-absorbing face powder and brow gel.

That’s because guys are relying on an increasing number of made-for-men products like these to put their best face forward..

Once upon a time long ago there were Roman slaves whose function it was to bathe men in perfume, and eye shadow was used in Egyptian burials.

Kohl was used to heavily line the eyes and eyebrows.

Powdered pigments made from mixing fat and oils were used to protect eyes from the sun. Pigments made of malachite, copper and lead ore, with the preferred colors being green powdered malachite and black crushed lead ore adorned the eyes.

Kohl was a dark-colored powder made from burnt almonds, lead, oxidized copper, ochre, ash, malachite and chrysocolla. Small sticks were used as makeup applicators.

Why does anyone wear makeup?

Some makeup worn by women is meant to be seen, but some is meant to be invisible, to camouflage perceived imperfections or blemishes.. dark circles, sun damage, acne, freckles, wrinkles, scars.

Makeup can accentuate a woman’s lips, eyes, cheekbones….ahhhh.

But hey……fear not dudes….. There are macho ways to be “made up”.

Wear face paint when ya go hunting, or play football and baseball. (Oh wait..the purpose is to look more “intimidating”)
