Wow. Say what you will bout Kobe but check this out:
Refusin to back Trayyyvon?
“I won’t react to something just because I’m supposed to, because I’m an African-American,” Bryant told the magazine.
“That argument doesn’t make any sense to me. So we want to advance as a society and a culture, but, say, if something happens to an African-American we immediately come to his defense? Yet you want to talk about how far we’ve progressed as a society?
Well… then don’t jump to somebody’s defense just because they’re African-American. You sit and you listen to the facts just like you would in any other situation, right? So I won’t assert myself.
Apparently Cobe went of da reservation on dis one so that makes him public enemy numero uno?
And what of humor and race?
Where does humor end and racism begin?
Racism seems to connote when there is malice involved, does it not?
Is it never acceptable to mock, mimic or poke fun at others different than ourselves?
“White people” have long been thought to be the ones responsible for keeping the blacks down, even now. That belief gave carte blanche to poke fun at “crackers” and “whitey”, insisting whitebread had better laugh along with the perennial put downs.
Some go so far as to say “white people”, as a generalization is racist in and of itself.
Why is it socially acceptable and cool if your skin is brown and you’re “down” like one of da bros – to rant ’bout “nappy hair” or “hoes” till da cows come home and never be accused of using negative stereotypes toward white or black women?
When did it become acceptable to tease when the joke teller is of the ethnic group, religion, gender or minority themselves?
Women have been the brunt of hurtful, even inciteful humor since the dawn of civilization.
Women themselves participate in their own self effacement.
Jokes habitually target womens’ bodies or anatomy. These derogatory comments are supposed to be ‘all in jest’…. no matter how personal or crude.
To accept race-based or anti woman humor as innocent and all in fun… is to step down a very, dangerous path.
Making fun of Jews or women due to physical or ethnic idiosyncrasies was within acceptable limits in our culture.
The consequences, however, were generations of Jews and women who saw insulting them as accepted social behavior, which they begain to even partake in themselves.
Wouldn’t you agree that routine ridicule of women, (and it is routine), or the prejudicial singling out of racial groups is what should give us pause?
Then again, How about using humor to drive the point home?
Have the unending depictions and ridicule of Christianity not pushed the limits of good taste over and over again?
After all…What are the origins of prejudice?
Thousands of generations ago, we were nomadic, even tribal beings. Suspicion of and scuffles with other tribes were essential in maintaining tribal boundaries and preserving hunting grounds to ensure the future of ones kinfolk.
We are a product of this evolution, are we not.
Suspicion and notions of mistrust of others who are “different” is quite normal and natural.
Thankfully, most of us have evolved and developed the intelligence to understand our history, as well as the social structures which permit us to break down “tribal” barriers without the need to first club each other over the head.
Just picture two friends, (or yourself for that matter) who have broken down these barriers that may have existed. They can tell each other jokes that refer to the other’s “tribal” differences, without either one losing their heads.
Notice, I said ‘most of us’.
Apparently, some never laugh.
However, if whites, women, Jews and Christians are fair game…………….
Why are we silenced when trying to laugh at Muzlims or Arabs?
Can we not snicker at the bloodthirsty monsters who call themselves Ham-ASS, or, occasionally snort at the compliant stooges who call themselves “moderates”, who never speak out against terrorism by their brethren and truly hate the “West”?
Is not all fair in love and jest?

Heh. What say y’all, my funny friends?
