U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords sang the folk-rock song “American Pie” over the weekend – and knew all the words..
Good news on the doorstep: Giffords sings ‘American Pie’
Giffords, 40, is recovering from a gunshot wound to the head at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston, where her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, lives. She was one of 19 people shot Jan. 8 at a northwest-side supermarket as she held a meet-and-greet event. Six people died.
Giffords was shot in the left forehead and the bullet went clear through the left side of the brain, which typically controls right-side strength, sensation and speech.
Giffords’ medical team has been encouraging her to mouth the words to songs as part of an exercise known to rebuild the brain.
Oh yea!..Now that’s good news.

It is amazing that she’s recovering so fast.
I don’t even know all the words, and I haven’t even suffered a traumatic head injury. Half the time when I try to sing it my brains tries to insert Weird Al “My, My, Mr. Anakin Guy” in there.
And yes, we want to hear you sing and play it.

G-d truely created a masterpiece when the human being wuz conceived. Glad to hear to hear she iz gittin betta and applaud her for being one heck of a fighter.
Hey Innoman, I beg to differ wit cha. I read your blog, probably too much the truth be known, and always figgered the opposite of this statement,
“I haven’t even suffered a traumatic head injury.” I git one every time I read you but I recover quickly too.
Yah all have an awesome weekend, G-d says we should take time off to recover from the trauma’s that pale in comparison to what this woman going thru.

Some brain science here: the right side of her brain is apparently intact. Therefore, what she may not be able to say she may be able to sing!
Time will tell if the left side of her brain can pick up on the language skills that the right side has, the right side via the lyrics to music.
Remember Mel Tellis? He stammered when he spoke, so then he would resort to singing the words — and the words came out just fine.

I’m glad Ms. Giffords is feeling better. However, I wish she’d change her mind on the abortion issue; NARAL gives her a grade of 100. She needs to be voted out of office.
