Our VetS Deserve so MucH MorE

The next time you pass a homeless man on the street, you might ask in which war he served. In the next several years, chances are good that he (and increasingly she) will say Iraq or Afghanistan.

One in three adult homeless males is a veteran and 45 percent of those suffer from mental illness, according to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans.
Veterans Need More Than Applause
A recent report in the New England Journal of Medicine, meanwhile, found that one in four veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan were diagnosed with some kind of mental health problem..

The Senate last year passed a bill to increase funding for veterans’ mental health programs..
The House, however, failed to take action.

Anti-war rhetoric has flown through the air like streamers and confetti by the Libs..and no funding left for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for our troops. Hmmmm.

Their behavior has put the lie to the notion that they “support our troops.”

But why should this attitude come as a surprise.
After all, the Libs’ legislative record is replete with examples of haughtiness, cronyism and disdain for good legislative procedure is it not?

Do I solely blame Libs for this apathetic sentiment toward our soldiers. No.
I blame us all.

We stand now at a grave moment in the history of our civilization, beleaguered by enemies who irrationally embrace their own destruction along with ours.

Our fate, and very physical existence is literally in the hands our soldiers and military.
Their courage under fire, in my estimation knows few bounds.

Of course there will be psychologically and emotionally damaged veterans.
How can there not be, when facing psychotic terrorists who feed on sheer hatred and irrational hysteria on a daily basis.

But not ensuring that they receive the care they need and so richly deserve when they return home is not only an abominable sin but a gross violation of our national duty.

After wandering in the wilderness of ennui for so many decades, let us do away with the sanctimonious sermons by journalists about how virtuous our soldiers are……….and let us put our money where our mouths are.

When it comes to our precious soldiers……….
Leave no man (or woman) behind.

    Great post Angel (as always!).

As with everything the Coruptocrats get their grubby paws on, they give lip service to make themselves look good. In reality they are just lining their own pockets while the citizens of the Nation suffer for it.

Somehow I can’t help but think the Founding Fathers are rolling over in their graves at how corrupt our government has become.

As a veteran of the 1st Gulf War and OIF/OEF I can relate first hand how little support our troops recieve once they return home. It takes more than a pat on the back at the airport. Some of these guys and gals have very serious mental problems. Very few actually get the help they need.

God bless you Angel for helping bring attention to this sad situation.

I see the side of The House in that it is questionable if we can afford such mental health programs which be a form of universal health care. I am also curious on how effective they are considering that giving a veteran a possibly ineffective drug will at best resolve mental health problems only for the short term while he or she is taking them. To get this program on line there needs to be cuts as big and preferably bigger in some other area. Who will be asked to sacrifice?

Someone correct me on this, but was it not during President Johnson’s administration that it was decided that those unable to care for themselves with mental health problems but dangerous to others could no longer be institutionalized, since it “violated their rights”. As a result, if this is true, the homeless population exploded and instead of those unable to care for themselves receiving food, shelter, sanitary living, and clean clothes, we now have a group of people the dems can readily use to somehow say the Republicans have ruined the economy, which is nowhere near the truth. Plus the dems can now give them alcohol and smokes to vote for them! What a deal!

Typo correction above. Should read: “but not dangerous to others” :)

Thanks alls for the inputs….Mental health intervention and therapy works quite well for pple suffering PTSD..not just drugs to mask the pain and yes Martin ..the Libs are the ones who put the homeless on the streets to begin with! :)

You are so right that more and more of these military folks will be women. They deserve our best, our thanks, but mostly our support, whatever their need might be.

I’ve been trying to put a ministry together that deals totally with ministering to the needs of veterans. So far, no one wants to get on board.

SERIOUSLY WITHOUT WAR WHAT WOULD hALIBURTON AND TRICKY dICKY CHeNEY do for a living..
On a more serious note, what would we do as a country if everyone felt like cINDY sHeeHan, and no one stepped up to support our ideals for a freer world. It is indeed our obligation to those VETS who layed it on the line, life and limb to protect our right to LIFE,LIBERTY and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.
Thank GOD the army of Israel does not suffer the pangs of apathy as does so often strike the liberalcracts of the self-hating left.
So when your head hits that soft pillow tonight, give up a THANK YOU for the men and women that made it a reality…..

Our society has the wrong priorities. If we spent the money we use on giving away free abortions and condoms to take care of our vets there would be no homeless vets.

Thanks again y’all for the patriotism and decency! :)

    They deserve so much more.

My hubby’s Dad was a Vietnam vet. He got diabetes and refused to care for himself, because he was depressed, and died from it about a year before I met the hubby. He was only in his 50′s.

My hubby found him in his apartment. He went over two or three times a week on his days off, but unfortunately he wasn’t there that day.

Years after the war, he was another casualty.

Thanks for the link, Angel! Great post, by the way. How in the world did I miss this one? I think you know my husband served in Vietnam. Thanks for the post. :)
