MerrY Chanukah and HappY ChristmaS

CHICAGO City officials in Chicago have sent a message to a movie studio that hoped to help sponsor a Christmas festival with ads for “The Nativity Story” — There’s no room for you.
Chicago officials don’t want ads for ‘The Nativity Story’ at Christmas fest
Worried that ads for the film about Jesus’ birth would offend non-Christians browsing at a traditional German Christmas festival…But a spokeswoman for the mayor of Chicago’s Office of Special Events says the city does not want to appear to endorse one religion over another.
I know. I know.
Here we go again.
The secularization or if some had their way, the elimination of America’s favorite holiday and the more stalwart push toward a neutered “holiday” season.
Needless to say local officials who would rather capitulate to the secular kool-aid drinkers than be seen as politically incorrect.
Rabbis have even spoken boldly of their outrage about the wave of anti-Christians, who won’t cease until they stamp out any reference to Christmas, Chanukah or any ahem..”Judeo-Christian” religion, that is.

So, whom exactly are we so afraid of er..”offending”?
Oh, and by the way…The second-largest December religious holiday in the United States is Hanukkah. ![]()
Do ya suppose by some stretch that - that will “offend” them too?
Perhaps we should all just say Merry Christmas and a Happy Chanukah.
![]()
How much ya wanna bet none of the Christians or Jews will get the slightest bit “offended”?

Hey hun I had to laugh when you quote “Chicago”–my home town that I sorely miss. Born and raised in Chicago. I am, was, and always will be a “proud” Chicagoan. Even tho I am a republican-I am one of a few that supports Daley-a dem. But to be honest that Daley family has made “Chicago”.
My trackback is off topic, plz forgive me but I wanted you and all that knew me to know why I fell out of existance for awhile–so if you want to delete it no prob. I understand, but I did link back to this post in my rantings…….lolzzzzzzzz.
And as for Chicago’s liberal ways….heh, that is par the course they have been like that ever since JFK visited that town back in 1960 — they will never change.
Great post as always Angel….Cheers!!!!!

It is getting ridiculous but I’m just glad that some have come to their senses like Wal-mart. It just goes to show if the public speaks out, they will be heard.

Another nice post Angel.
Taking your advice.
Merry Christmas and a Happy Chanukah!

I never quite figured this one out either…
Last estimate I saw the majority of Americans, close to 80%, at least believe in God and Jesus Christ, but may not be devoted Christians/Catholics… So these businesses are going to offend the majority of Americans in order to NOT offend the minority? They contradict their argument because they are offending Christians. Confuses the heck out of me…
Wal-Mart sure figured that out in a hurry didn’t they?
Sheesh.

Chanukah is a relatively minor festival. Most equate it with the miracle of the lights- one day’s supply of lamp oil lasting eight days. It is also important to remember that the festival commemorates a military victory- a small band of freedom fighters who drove a great power from their land and restored Jewish religious observance.

Terrorists continue to terrorize, open trackbacks…
It’s Wednesday again, criminal invaders continue to invade, terrorists continue to terrorize, politicians continue to disappoint, the ‘left’ gets stronger and the ‘right’ continues to act clueless. What do you have to say? Right Wing Guy has a cap…

I’m surprised it took until after Thanksgiving for this discrimination to get started, Angel.

Hi Angel. Thanks for the link!
Every year it’s the same old crap; we have to fight off the attacks of the loony left. How tiresome they have become!

It’s okay! Really! After all, we know the Christians will only complain - no riots or anything else. So we don’t need to worry about them. We will have to support anything the Muzlims wish, though, ’cause they will do vi0olent things. And that way we can say we are not promoting one religion over another. No, we’re bowing to the violent one. And that’s completely different. So shut up, you Christians and Jews, and just try to get along with the Religion of Pieces, okay?
Sheesh!

There’s no war against Christmas. Just like there is no liberal bias in the media. Yeah, right.

Let me see the Devinci Code which denies that Jesus died for our sins in alright but the Nativity Story even if advertised by a non Christian organization is not.
Someone should tell the Chicago Mayor’s office to read and understand The First Amendment since it states that Congress should not favor a religious organization or prevent the free exercise of the same. Even if we went on a limb and called the Chicago council Congress they are interfering with the free exercise of religion of the patrons of the Christmas gathering. I have no problem with them allowing a non Muslim organization to advertise for a Muslim show such as the life of Mohamed.

fastac 6:
That’s a very good point. As an educated Jew, it has never made sense to me why people equate Hanuka and Christmas.
In the Jewish religious cycle, Hanuka is a fairly minor holiday, albeit a fun one. Whereas, Christmas is absolutely essetial and central to Christian theology. The only thing these two holidays have in common is lights during the winter.
Besides, why should it “offend” someone if another person practices their own religion?

Which reminds me: do you want on the alliance blogroll? Shoot me an email and let me know.

Chanukah 2006 - The Carnival of Lights…
In a moment I will tell my non-Jewish friends what Chanukah celebrates, but first I have to tell you that no Jewish Holiday is possible without Jewish mothers. My mother made potato latkes so delicious you could eat them plain, but even better when top…
