Offensive Airport Christmas Trees Removed

Fantasy:
CBNNews.com- SEATAC, Wash. - Every holiday season for 25 years there were Christmas trees at the airport serving Seattle. But one complaint — accompanied by the threat of legal action — was enough to get them removed.

Officials at Sea-Tac Airport say a rabbi with the Central Organization for Jewish Learning calls them offensive. He hired a lawyer and threatened to sue — demanding the airport put up an eight-foot menorah to balance the message of the Christmas trees.

An airport spokeswoman says the two sides couldn’t reach an agreement before the suit was to be filed. So all 15 trees were removed, though other holiday decorations remain.

Reality:
The Rabbi did not call the trees “offensive”, nor did he “demand” they put up a Menorah. What he did say, was that he “would be offended” if they did not put the trees back up at this time.

Christmas trees removed at Sea-Tac

The Port of Seattle said it had little choice. It said a Seattle rabbi with the Central Organization for Jewish Education hired an attorney and threatened to sue if the airport did not erect an eight-foot menorah to balance the message of the Christmas trees.

Reality:
The Port of Seattle certainly did have a choice.
They could have left the Christmas trees exactly as they were…or even put up a menorah.

The Seattle Times tries to strike a journalistic balance.

The airport managers ordered the plastic trees removed and boxed up after a rabbi asked to have an 8-foot-tall menorah displayed next to the largest tree in the international arrival hall.

Airport puts away holiday trees rather than risk being “exclusive”

As odd as it might seem, Sea-Tac Airport officials were hoping to avoid controversy when they had maintenance crews working Friday’s graveyard shift dismantle nine holiday trees festooned with red ribbons and bows.

1-Notice it says a rabbi “asked”, not demanded.

2-Note that it was the Port Authority’s decision to eliminate the Christmas display.

“Sea-Tac Airport officials .. had maintenance dismantle ..nine holiday trees ..”The airport managers ordered the plastic trees removed and boxed up after a rabbi asked to have an 8-foot-tall menorah displayed next to the largest tree in the international arrival hall.”

Elazar Bogomilsky, the rabbi who last month asked that a menorah be displayed, said he was “appalled” by the Port’s reaction to what he believed to be a simple request. There are public menorah lightings at the White House and cities across the Northwest, he said. Next week, Gov. Christine Gregoire will help light a menorah under the Capitol Dome in Olympia.

Why not the airport?

“Everyone should have their spirit of the holiday. For many people the trees are the spirit of the holidays, and adding a menorah adds light to the season,” said Bogomilsky.

Instead, the Port dragged its feet for weeks and hired an outside attorney to research religious-freedom case law, said Harvey Grad, Bogomilsky’s attorney.

They’ve darkened the hall instead of turning the lights up,” said Grad. “There is a concern here that the Jewish community will be portrayed as the Grinch.”

And for all the haters (in the comment field at the stated articles) claiming that a Christmas tree is a secular display, whereas by definition, a menorah is a religious display………..

“The U.S. Supreme Court had determined that menorahs, like Christmas trees, can be secular symbols if they are not part of a religious-themed display. Bogomilsky’s menorah — like those in other public places — is lit with bulbs, rather than oil, which requires a blessing before lighting.” hanukkah-m.jpg

“But the Port did not want to set the precedent of allowing an outside group to erect a holiday display at the airport…”

oh, so now Jews are an An “outside group”?..Outside of what?

Bogomilsky, too, said he is not disturbed by holiday trees, but wishes that his own symbol was not excluded. He hopes the Port will reconsider, put the trees back up and install a menorah before Hanukkah.

“I didn’t think it would be a complicated issue. I thought it was a simple request,” he said.

The Rabbi was not trying to cannibalize anyone’s civil liberties, but this episode certainly did serve to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Every pathetic card carrying member of the “We love Christianity so much that we have to hate Jews” showed up at the following and many other comment forums.
The predictable, vitriolic anti-semitic commentors :
HERE

Of course we can always count on the Mainstream Mafia Media and Associated (with terrorists) Press to do whatever it can to regurgitate anti-American and anti-semitic propaganda.

How utterly convenient to associate this gentle, patriotic Rabbi with the radical Izalmo-Nazis. Ah, yes, those Jooos and Muzlims tryin to take away our Christmas eh? Since when are Jooos and Muzlims on the same side of an issue?..
Theyr’e NOT.

Muzlims want the Zionist infidels headless..and Jews, well they just want to be left alone.

Rad. Izlam is the one holding a sword to the throat of America, not gentle Rabbis with beards and simple “requests.”

Tell the truth? Nah.
We wouldn’t want to deprive the Lefty kool-aid drinking liberals in the Press of one more talking point, now would we?

Once again, alleged “journalists” making a burlesque of their occupation.

Wake up and smell the personal responsibility Port of Seattle’s Sea-Tac.

How can I be so sure of all of this?

I personally spoke with Rabbi and Mrs. Bogomilsky today.
I was told that this request for a Menorah is actually usually enthusiastically received.
The soft spoken, amiable couple will not serve as a punching bag for anyone but closet anti-semites.

The Rabbi should indeed file a lawsuit. For defamation of his just and righteous character at the hands and pens of the dhimm-itude loving, prize winning faux journalists as well as the trigger happy Port of Seattle’s staff who could hardly wait to dismantle the Christmas trees even though they had an entire month to put up an innocuous Menorah.

Yes. That is front of the White House.

Looks like a Mel Gibson distortion all over again.
Great post Angel, and great work on the personal call to the family.
It is so obvious that the intention of the Seattle airport is to fan the flame of anti-semitism, that anyone lets it happen is a crime against humanity.
Please send the Rabbi and his family my blessings and happy holiday greetings and more importantly…Never give up a fight worth fighting for,

MY fellow americans, why are you missing the point…the Seattle airport simply needed to say YES..as ruled by the Supreme Court 1989..
the Rabbi requested the placing of a Menora next to the christmas tree as a showing of unity…the Seattle airport officials preferred to remove the tree “under durrest” to cause a stir….why???? i am not sure…
the threat of a lawsuit by the Rabbi is a standard everyday method of getting the attention of someone who is not listening!!!!… to reason.
