Chanukkah Call to ArmS

It’s all about the light my sweet friends.
Shedding light onto what seems like a darkened world.
![]()
In New York city the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is adorned with more than five miles of glittering lights, not to mention the largest-ever Swavorski star on its top.
The world’s largest menorah proudly stands at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 59th Street for the eight nights of Chanukkah.
But, what’s it really all about.

The heroes of the Chanukkah story are the “Maccabees”, a band of seven brothers who battled and exchanged blows against the oppressive, state-mandated idolatry of the Greeks.
The Greeks (for whom infanticide was “normal”) tried to destroy the spiritual essence of the Jewish people. They outlawed the celebration of the Sabbath, the blessings of the new moon, and even ritual circumcision.
Many Jews chose to acquiesce to Greek demands……appease, appease, appease.
But this band of seven brothers had the moral clarity to grasp the threat and utter darkness of the oppressive Greek culture.
The Maccabee brothers did not “talk” to the enemy.
The Maccabee brothers did not try to find favor with the enemy.
The Maccabee brothers did not make concession after concession to the enemy.
What did they do?
They took up arms.
…losing six of the seven brothers in so doing.
They were hugely outnumbered; but they did not “cut and run”.
Their military victories could be described as nothing short of miraculous. But victorious they were.
We are facing evil my sweet friends..and we all know it.
What do we need to do this Chanukkah?
We need to kindle the inner vision that the band of seven brothers had.
Even if it means picking up the sword.
This Chanukkah, We all need to become Maccabees.
…and penetrate the darkness.

What makes the “appeasement” and “cut and run” attitudes worse than ever is the relatively great strength of the West compared to the modern foes, as opposed to the Maccabees, who really were the far weaker force.
The US, and Britain, and Israel are potentially much, much stronger than their enemies. It is only a lack of will that can delay or prevent Western victory in this situation.

Good morning, Angel.
We know there is no appeasing our enemies, and it’s frustrating that everyone can’t see that. Actually, it’s beyond frustrating; it’s maddening! I suppose that, sooner or later we’ll get off of our behinds and really fight this war the way it should be fought, but probably not until after another 9/11 or even worse, which wouldn’t have to be the case if all Americans would simply take their dang blinders off!

Great post Angel.
There are many great things we attribute to Greek culture including democracy but freedom of religion is not included.
As one of your readers pointed out, the Maccabees were by far the weaker military force but they refused to back down. This is a lesson our leaders need to relearn.

Keith Ellison Is A Disgrace…
Normally one would think that if you were a Congressman elected by the people of a certain state, in this case Minnesota, that you would do what is in the best interest of that state and the people who elected you in the first place and not put your …..

Really Great Post Angel.
It sometimes doesn’t take a large force to take out an enemy like what we face but a determined force to strike in the right place.the Achilles’ heel if it were, to hit them in the right place that hurts the enemy the most.
To use a bit of the native American Indian approach to stealthily sneak up on the enemy and to catch them off guard, mixed with a bit of the old style oriental marshal arts technique of the Ninjas and the determination of the Samurai.

Islam in America…
Americans need to do some serious thinking about their future, the future of Islam and Muslims as it related to America, and be aware of where our politicians stand. All the uproar about Keith Ellison using the Koran in his…

Great post, Angel! How insane is it that we continue to ignore the lessons of history?
NO DHIMMITUDE!

The story of the Maccabees is uplifting and inspiring. But it doesn’t fit in with the modern “civilized” world. We will negotiate until we are over-run by the savages.

I heard the Greeks tried to secularize the Jewish religion and make God and Zeus the same. Does anyone know if that rumor is true?

I agree Angel- I’ve got an article over on my site talking about the oneness Gentiles have with Jews if you care to check it out- the site listed in my article has some very interesting things to state about how Jews and Gentiles spring from the same Abram, and are therefore brothers and co heirs of the kingdome.

Ephraim and Judah United…
As we come upon Christmas this year, during dark times indeed, I’d like to bring your attention to the fact that not only did Christ live and die for your sins, He did so to bring you into His kingdom as joint-heirs to reign alongside Him.
Once …

Nice post Angel.
You are right. Appeasment, whether the schoolyard bully or Hitler or Hamas
never works and always leads to more bullying.
Take care and thanks again.

Thank you Angel, for your personal Christmas greeting to me. You and my grandmother were the only two to write me a card that didn’t ask for a check in return!
I’ve posted the meat of your story on my site. Your insight into the Scriptures is truly top-notch.
Love you all,
Truman

Chanukah 2006 - The Carnival of Lights…
In a moment I will tell my non-Jewish friends what Chanukah celebrates, but first I have to tell you that no Jewish Holiday is possible without Jewish mothers. My mother made potato latkes so delicious you could eat them plain, but even better when top…

You are a Chanukah-blogging demon. I could probably fill up the next Carnival of Lights with only your posts.
Thank you and Merry Christmas.
