Do You BelievE?

WASHINGTON — Americans are big believers in angels, although not necessarily the ones with halos and wings.

An Associated Press/AOL poll said 81 percent think angels are for real. The belief cuts across all backgrounds and religious convictions. More than half those with no religious affiliation call themselves believers.
Poll: Majority Of Americans Believe In Angels

One man surveyed thinks angels can take many forms. He said he felt his late wife’s spirit one winter day when a bluebird flew into his backyard. She loved them. Or, he said, it could just be the person who stops to help you fix a flat tire.

Ah. Angels.

Are they forces of light?..Are they celestial beings who act as an intermediaries between Heaven and earth?
Are they a kind of heavenly rescue squad?

Have you ever met someone “angelic”? Did they perhaps provide you with your spiritual or emotional needs.

Since days of yore, men and women of all cultures have felt invisible spiritual presences among them that they felt guided and even protected them.

Angels are represented throughout the Bible as a body of spiritual beings who act as an intermediaries between God and men.

From the book of Daniel 7:9-10:

9 “As I looked,
“thrones were set in place,
and the Ancient of Days took his seat.
His clothing was as white as snow;
the hair of his head was white like wool.
His throne was flaming with fire,
and its wheels were all ablaze.

10 A river of fire was flowing,
coming out from before him.
Thousands upon thousands attended him;
ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him.

The court was seated,
and the books were opened.

The books of Isaiah: (Chapter 6) and Daniel: Chapter 10:5,6) offer powerful descriptions.

1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another:
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”
4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

6 Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

5 “I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen, with a belt of the finest gold around his waist..”
6 His body was like chrysolite, his face like lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude.

Angels in the Scripture seem to carry out different and unique missions or errands.

Worship and praise in Heaven. (Isaiah 6:1-3)

Providing physical needs: God has used angels to provide physical needs as in providing a well of water for Hagar’s son to drink. (Genesis 21:17-20)

Messengers: to communicate God’s will to men.

Defending and Saving from harm: As Daniel was saved in the lion’s den.
(Daniel 3,6)

My own personal encounter, sweet friends, was on a shadowy night long ago in the city of Jerusalem.

On my first Sabbath in the Holy Land, feeling all autonomous and self-reliant..(Lord knows why, because Ms. “No sense of direction” gets lost in her own house)…I ventured forth…on my own.

I headed toward a theological seminary on this dark evening, anticipating a reunion of sorts with my friends.

After two turns, I knew I was ineffectually and feebly lost.

Along came a very pious religious student, who no doubt limits his conversations with strange women due to modesty and reserve. I inquire and pray he will be of assistance.

He proceeded to lead the way, quite literally, walking a few brisk paces ahead of little ole

There was construction along the way, twists and turns.

I nearly stumbled and he turned around to see about me, then picked up his pace again. If anyone has ever been in Israel, they have certainly experienced one thing: streets do not interweave. They have a mind of their own.

We arrive in front of the building, and no sooner do I exhale a sigh of utter relief and liberation, I look up to extend my warmest thankfulness……………..and he is gone.

As in gone.
Not up the street.
Not down the street.
Not even on the side of the curved, twisted Jerusalem alley way.

So, Yes, without hestiation I can say..I met mine.

What say you sweet friends? Believers or skeptics? angelgodani.gif

I have been on the verge of being an angel all my life, but it’s never happened yet.

    You are my heavenly Angel
Because no one could be so sweet and kind and considerate as you, with out those Snow White Wings of a Dove and your Golden Halo that you have.

I believe in angels. Your experience with an angel is remarkable, and rare.

God has given you a gift and a sign.

Interesting post. Personally, I don’t really believe in angels, except maybe in people named Angel, but who am I?

    Bonus trivia question:
How many times in the Bible (that’s the Jewish Bible, Old Testament to you Xtians out there) does an angel appear armed?

Extra points if you can give chapter and verse.

  4. Debbie says:

Yes, I believe in Angels. They can come in many forms, … a human, a feeling, an insight, … but yes I believe.

I need to be honest and give you a response to your question that you asked. Yes Angel I do believe in Angels, how can one not when it is written in the Bible that says there is. If one is to believe in God I guess than that one can not dispute Angels either.

  6. Brooke says:

    I’m with NK.

Angels DO exist, ’cause God says they do!

  7. American Crusader says:

Night Rider makes a good point. There are several direct references of Angels interacting with people on earth. The Angel Gabriel being one of the most important.
You mentioned that Angels often provided physical needs.
I was going to mention this angel I met in St. Thomas but maybe that’s not appropriate.

Angels? Well, I know one, Angel…

As to “angeloi” as messengers from God, sure. But the presence or absence of such beings is almost inconsequential to me in the reality of Jesus’ promise in John’s Gospel that the Comforter would be ever present with His own or the vision presented by the writer of Hebrews (who was either Paul or another apostle with the same name and writing style, etc. *heh*) of ready access to the holy of holies through the veil of Christ’s flesh.

Angels? Sure, but in the grand scheme of things, not all that grand in my own approach to the world.

Glad you had such an uplifting experience, though. Such things can be great encouragement. I find similar uplifting experiences (though perhaps in not quite so mysterious a manner) from other Angel(s).

Since I ‘ve been able to walk away completely unscathed from several catastrophic events and had the good fortune to have been with friends who pulled me back from the brink of destruction…since I have been lifted or otherwise held together in midst of cataclysm and mayhem …I KNOW that there are angels and some of them have taken an interest in my own paltry wellbeing!
    Go figure!

  22. Mr. Tastic says:

Wow, quite the extensive and wonderful post. Yes, God’s angels are a mystery to all but I’m quite confident that they’re with us every day. I know quite confidently that I’ve been “guided” a few times.

Angels are our guardians, there is no doubt.

That fits the description of angels I get from the bible.

Angel, Your experience in Jerusalem is very powerful to me. I certainly believe in divine intervention. I can remember several times driving from the Houston airport to Orange, TX, where I lived for 15 years, at night after a long flight and passing through some of the small towns along the way without remembering them at all. There is no doubt in my mind that I was asleep the entire time and that I only got home by divine intervention.

  25. Terry_Jim says:

I haven’t been aware of meeting one,
but I have certainly been under their protection,
