But in what’s sure to be a controversial interpretation of the story, a Victoria choir will next month present Samson as a suicide bomber.

Simon Ca-pet, music director of the Victoria Philharmonic Choir, says he wanted to update Handel’s Samson oratorio to be relevant to today’s audiences by drawing comparisons to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
Mr. Ca-pet says presenting Samson as a terrorist is not meant to offend anyone or point the finger at one group, but to challenge our notions of what a terrorist is.
“Is there any difference between pulling down a pillar or blowing a bomb?” asks Mr. Ca-pet.

Samson was one of the judges of Israel, when Israel was under the oppression of the Philistines. His life and acts are recorded in Judges XIII-XVI.
Perhaps you shoulda read it before you turned him into Osamaaaaaaa bin Lad-en huh.
Allow me to educate you..as if that’s remotely possible.
Once upon a time…
For forty long and unendurably harsh years, the Jews had been feeling the crushing weight of Philistine oppression, but were unable to win a decisive victory over their cruel enemy.
Samson was too humble, to undertake the leadership of a Jewish army despite his extraordinary strength.

The heartless Phillistines easily overcame him, tormented him, took out both his eyes, and led him to Gaza in iron chains.
Samson prayed……”O, G-d, give me strength this once. Let me avenge myself on these cruel Philistines that they may know that you are the only G-d. It matters not if I die with them!”
He suddenly felt the spirit of God within him.
With one mighty haul, Samson tore the pillars down.
The walls and the roof came crashing down, and not a single Philistine present survived. Samson, too, was killed in this great crash, but leaning far back, saved his own body which was later brought to his native land to be buried properly.
Samson was a judge of the people of Israel for twenty years.

Simple minds construct simple strategies. If this person’s only argument for condoning terrorism is to call someone else a terrorist, he is less than simple. Condoning a criminal act by drawing an invalid comparison only serves to weaken their position, if they had one to begin with.

Unbelievable! I am glad I found your blog! Someone who gets passionate about things! As for the Jews and christians getting bashed, here in Venezuela we are starting to get more and more of that. We were forced to leave the tribal village where we lived and worked as evangelical missionaries. But, the president here invites Hezbullah in to “educate” the tribes! Wonder what kind of education they will get…
