MarriagE OpenTrackback Weekend

The Beverly LaHaye Institute has just released data revealing another dimension of the problems facing children when their parents are not married.
The Problems of Pre-Term and Low Birth Weight Babies
First, marriage rates have dramatically decreased –– from a high of 149 marriages per 1,000 unmarried women aged 15-44 in 1970 to a low of 70 marriages per 1,000 unmarried women in 2005.

Further, the percentage of pre-term and low birth weight babies continues –– along with the percentage of non-marital births –– to climb. ..

babies-teeny.jpg

Around the world today, “children’s rights” advocates are talking about doing things “for the children.”

When a politician wants to promote a policy, it is often sold (no matter how tenuous the connection) as being “for the children.”

Yet, those same liberal advocates typically define “family” as any assortment of caring individuals, and the politicians have failed to support marriage through favorable tax treatment, acting as though marriage were some sort of optional luxury. Yet, there is no way to sugarcoat the fact that women who are not married are at significantly higher risk of having pre-term and low-birth-weight babies.

baby-small.jpg

But in the politically correct world foisted off on us by the feminists and their liberal allies in the media, few in government have the temerity to comment about (and certainly not to advocate) marriage …………

Let’s be honest friends…Ya can’t tell a Lefty Lib that when pursuing their own momentary, fleeting, physical pleasure..it may actually have lasting consequences, and impact more than on just the selfish individual making those choices.

There is a wealth of research, outside of simple common sense (which seems to have gone the way of extinction along with the dodo bird) to support the claim that children are the most successful academically, emotionally, and socially when raised in a two parent …which means -biological mother and father..and oh yes……. “married to each other”.. family.

do-do-bird.jpg

Accordin to the new wave socialist Libs, despite all evidence to the contrary…family make-up simply doesn’t matter, it’s luvvvvvvvvv that makes the difference eh. Luv. Right.

heart025.gif

Same sex marriage proponents allege that conventions leave an impression that “there is something wrong or unnatural about their families.
Well, yes there is.

No child is born of two mothers.

hippie2.gif

Those who oppose same-sex relationships because of their faith do not feel particularly threatened by same-sex marriages, but rather believe that the relationships themselves are inherently immoral and sinful.

And…er……..Some guy shacking up with a girl, getting her pregnant and not even honoring her enough to make a permanent, legal commitment. Yes, aint love grand.

seenoevilani.gif

Promiscuity leads to more harm in our society than many crimes considering its widespread impact, the ultimate financial costs to society , not to mention the criminals it spawns due to neglect and oftentimes, abuse of unwanted children.

boy-small.jpg

It’s a dang shame that individuals can’t be held legally responsible and even punished for irresponsible sexual conduct , which harms society as much if not more than other crimes do.

Ah, the Libs shout that “harming society” is a vacuous and nebulous standard from which to form policy or judgement.

That is a bold faced lie. Free consensual sex creates poverty and crime, spreads AIDS, and stds, which in turn, ruins neigborhoods and entire communities. And who pays the bills?
Citizens have to pay increased taxes for more police , fund more and more “programs for the needy”,for welfare and WIC to feed the unwanted babies of teen mothers.

For those who still have morals…. marriage is viewed as one of the building blocks of a society. A father and mother create family bonds which are unique and unparallelled.

Children are ideally brought up in two parent homes, where moral values are passed on from one generation to the next. Traditions, beliefs, and cultural norms are passed on through the family from parents (a father and mother) to children.

But yet again…the same ole same ole intellectually impoverished arguments from the kool-aid drinkin, hard core Libs.

All ya need is Love.
Uh huh.

welfare-small.jpg

That…..And the middle class workers of society to foot all your bills, and endure all the repercussions of your allegedly “harmless” behavior.

What say y’all sweet friends?

Angel, it is almost like you yearn for a return to traditional values. Every time a topic like this is duscussed it has me thinking the best way to solve most problems would be to return to the single income family, have Mom oversee the kids, go to church every week, have family reunions regularly, teach our children properly and raise the next generation to do things right.
Not like no one does, but we need to get the word out to those who do not.
Sometimes I just have to say something.

  4. Debbie says:

It is always a tragedy when children don’t have two good parents. Some today are lucky if they have ONE good parent. It is very frustrating. But I’m always thankful when a girl/woman decides to give birth rather than abort. At least the child has a chance at life.

Many pillars of society came from humble, one parent families, … and yet they not only survived, they thrived and succeeded. So it’s not all environmental, or heredity. But aborted babies get NO chance.

Doesn’t the mere fact that it seems necessary to point out the above truly drive home the level of ridiculous we as a society have plunged to?

You come up with some amazing post material, Angel. It is pleasantly off topic vs. the current headlines, but, not really… If you consider the many sources of today’s problems, this is very timely and relevent. Many of the blogs I frequent and thoroughly enjoy presently are interesting to me for their retention and promotion of FAMILY.

And marriage is a beginning to that end.

While many find it fashionable to criticize and belittle the tradition, it is still one of the most solid pillars we still have.

    Loved it, Angel… great job.

  8. Neil says:

Well said, Angel. It is amazing how many people believe the lie that there is a better way than one man / one woman for life.

The trend toward promoting pursuit of individual gratification has gone right along with a downward trend in the promotion on individual responsibility.

When’s the last time you heard of children being taught the concept of civic responsibility? Maybe in a private school, maybe in the home, maybe in a church or synagogue or some other religious instruction!

But, the fact is that as a society the concept of civic. civil or community responsibility is nearly a lost idea. Between the selfish and self serving in politics, the professional “advocates’ of victims, the demands of the howling proponents of political correctness and the mass marketing media there is little room left for the public discussion of ethics.

Keep up the good fight Angel …. Love to you!

Well, I think you just did and bravo for saying it! Truthfully, the hard core libs that spout, “All you need is luv” really are saying all you need is lust or perversion. The real love is not an emotion. It is a choice that an individual makes and then sticks by that decision. Excellent post.

  17. Kati says:

Oh c’mon… “women who are not married are at significantly higher risk of having pre-term and low-birth-weight babies”- this is almost certainly because women who give birth unmarried are statistically more likely to be younger, poorer, less healthy, not receiving prenatal care, etc.- all of those are the reasons their child comes into the world early and/or underweight. It is not CAUSED by the fact that the mother is unmarried. The body does not know whether or not it is married. If the study had only compared “comparable” populations (i.e., controlled for the variables I mentioned, such as age, income, etc.), I highly doubt any difference would have been found. Take two sets of women of the same age with the same level of health, income, prenatal care, etc., whose only difference is their marital status, and suddenly you’ll find no difference in prematurity and low-birth-weight rates.

If you want to be credible, know the difference between correlation and causation.

  21. Gayle says:

In response to one of your commentors, Kati, who seems to think she knows everything and is soooooooo condescending: then do that study, Kati. I personally would be interested to see the outcome because I believe that women who don’t have a commitment of marriage from the man who got them pregnant don’t have the same sense of security that a woman who has taken the marriage vows has. Even if it turns out to be a false sense of security because admittedly there are a lot of divorces, marriage does add to a woman’s feeling of security, which helps her mental condition during the time she is pregnant. No one will ever be able to convince me that a person’s mental condition isn’t important to the health of the fetus. The physical condition of the mother isn’t all that’s important to the health of an unborn child. You only make a case for mothers who don’t want to be married under any circustances. Your logic is immensely flawed, so before you attack Angel you perhaps should do a bit more research.
