Have the instincts of our species atrophied so completely that parents need to be told to have their kids play outside?

Apparently.

Apparently, it’s worse than that.
Life Potatoes

Apparently, the American family of homo sapiens now needs national commissions, Congressional oversight, how-to books and even a slogan, “No Child Left Inside,” to get our young out of their shelters.

This used to be accomplished when primitive mothers and fathers pointed a finger and spoke two words: “Go outside.” Occasionally, two other words were needed: “Or else.”

biker21-thumb.jpg

In the meantime, I’ll have to trust what I observe: kids who spend a lot of time in front of screens are different than kids who don’t. It’s not brain surgery.

But surely between the sadistic amounts of homework schools now load on all kids over the age of 7, organized sports and lessons, portable electronic games and the big-screen junk, we are squeezing the imagination and the daring out of our kids.

basketballgirl.jpg

If you don’t believe how out of touch with nature and lazy kids have become..ask one:
What is your favorite activity?
See if he says fishing, playing handball or going to the movies, playin on his or her computer, or video game.

computerani-uy.gif

Never mind real little ones, teenagers happen to be the most active Internet bloggers. They post pictures, names, addresses, schools, and yes…even their phone numbers, and guess who’s parents are unaware of this?
Almost all of them.

So why are parents creating mini couch potatoes?
Physical activity is known to improve school performance, concentration, mood and yes …even behavior. Obesity in children is at an all time high.

girl60-thumb.jpg

And let’s be honest friends.
Kids nowadays..(man that makes me sound old..lol ) facers1.gif are undisciplined, manipulative, and unpleasant to be with much of the time. Right? Right.

They’ve never been taught the difference between their needs and their unending wishes.

Why are they like this…For the same reason they are permitted to rot in front of their television sets and computers all day: Permissive parents who don’t set limits and give in to their incessant tantrums and whining.

calvin1.gif

All this coddling and constant parental attention actually interferes with a child’s learning to do things for himself and learning to deal with life’s frustrations in the long run.

So guyz and dollz.
Set limits.
Don’t waste your time “negotiating” with kids.
and heck……..

Send ‘em outside in the yard to play and get their hands dirty for mercys sake.

kidsplay.jpg

What say y’all sweet friends?
Were you encouraged to be active as a child…and did you encourage your kids to play outdoors…….Fess up~! Heh. sleepani1.gif

    Hiya Angel,

I remember what it was like when I was a kid, I had homework which came first then I had a certain amount of chores that needed to be taken care of then if there was some free time after all that, then is when I would get the chance to play out doors, we never had big screen or computers back then, well I mean not the kind that one can sit at a desk to mess around with.

The TV screens back in those days were relatively small and were black and white TV’s, the computers back then were too big to fit on ones desk, in fact they wouldn’t even fit in my parents house.

    Have a terrific weekend

Yesterday while it was raining in sheets, one of our local newstations had a segment where the woman being interviewed was telling viewers that people need to encourage their kids to get outside more. “Get them swimming in the pool,” she said “or if you don’t have a pool of any sort, turn on a sprinkler!” This during a rainstorm that looked like a monsoon! They should have rescheduled that segment. Then an obese woman came on talking about ways to improve your health. SHEESH!

  9. Always On Watch says:

Kids today are missing out on the many pleasures away from the TV screen and the computer monitor.

It used to me that mothers turned their children loose for the day, then yelled for them when it was dinnertime. Not now.

  10. Donald Douglas says:

The summer months are great for getting outdoors, playing with friends, swimming, or whatever. Also good is that my kids like school, and get good grades. Parents need to discipline themselves, as well as their children. It’s hard work. Research shows family culture can make a big difference in the later success of the kids. I do think you raise some good points – I struggle sometimes to get those kids away from the TV screen!

    Have our instincts atrophied…?

It’s not atrophy in the instincts of humans. It’s the effective brainwashing of meddling busibodies and would be nurse nanny legislators that’s been so ubiquitous since the 1960′s.
The MSM plays a big role in propagating the idea’s of fools who would otherwise have little or no influence and the end result is a society where far too many people are conditioned to believe that the risks that lie outside their door are much greater than they really are. In addition the messages of the meddling fools have been that you are too week to deal with these threats.

Where once our society was proud of it’s strengths and freedoms, standing ready to fight for, defend and ebrace each personal privilege and right…. there now exists a vast number of timid sheep who cower at the thought of those freedoms and rights being exercised. A nation of thumbsuckers hoping to stay in the protection of mommies apron and blind to the harm they do to others in their cowardice.
