God on the Fourth of JulY

The Fourth of July provides an excellent opportunity to think about the principles that were the foundation of this country.
The Godly Foundation of AmericaThere is a reason why the Ten Commandments, Scripture quotations and beautiful artwork depicting biblical scenes are in this country’s Capitol, the Supreme Court and other federal buildings.
Our early U.S. presidents were strong believers in God.
It has been said that human government needs God and faith to survive; I couldn’t agree more. The Declaration pointedly says what will provide success: “With a prayer of reliance on divine providence …” George Washington noted, “… religion and morality are indispensable supports … let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion …”
We should remember a tradition started by George Washington.
Our first president was sworn into office with his hand on an open Bible. At the conclusion of his oath,
he closed his eyes and said, in a prayerful voice, “So help me God.” As he uttered those words he kissed the Bible.
“So help me God.”
Once upon a time it was nearly universally acknowledged that our precious country was founded by religious men whose values were grounded in the Jewish and Christian Scriptures.
Most now are pathetically ignorant of the religious bases of our morally declining society, insisting it has always been, a secular society that just so happens to have many individual Christians, and some Jews living in it.
Of course that clarifies the ahem..cough cough..peacenik activists’ agenda….to erase whatever public vestiges of religiosity remain.

No crosses on a county or city seal, no more “Merry Christmas” and the Supreme Court’s rulings against school prayer even when it’s of the most non-denominational type.
Let’s be honest friends.
Americans’ level of religious illiteracy is astounding. Kids are impoverished by ignorance.
In 1963 a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court removed devotional Bible reading from the schools.

That, however, did not mean that it should have been removed from literature and history.

Now that the Muzlim population is ever expanding, schools can hardly wait to inculcate kids with knowledge of “other faiths”, allegedly promoting pluralism and tolerance.
Universal compassion is just spiffy my friends but recall this Fourth of July:
We are clearly not all on the same path to the same God.

Religions are not identical or equivalent. They solve problems in quite different ways, and clearly their goals can be poles apart.
So, my sweet friends, this year…add some of your Faith to your Fourth.

Excellent post as always Angel.
“We are clearly not all on the same path to the same God.”
“Religions are not identical or equivalent.”
Hard truths for our times, but truths nonetheless. The ecumenicalists and the secularists have given up on truth.
Even so, all we have comes to us from God. I’m thankful that he has given us so much, and for friends who understand it too.

A great post on the meanings of the Fourth.
July 4th, 2007 at 6:29 am
And I got cut off while entering a comment…
I just wanted to add this to Angel’s post:
We need to remember our roots; they tell us who we are, and where we come from.
If we lose those roots, whether by forgetfullness, or the wilful stupidity of excessive “multiculturalism,” we will be cast adrift, with no substrate to anchor ourselves against the forces of Islamic terrorism.
So to celebrate a day like the Fourth isn’t just patriotism; it’s self defense, too.

BBC journalist Alan Johnston free on July 4…
BBC reporter Alan Johnston is finally free. Fox reporter Steve Centanni believes Johnston was held by the same group, and in fact guarded by the same man, that held Centanni and New Zealander cameraman Olaf Wig, in Gaza last year….

Without the Lord’s protective hand, our nation would not have survived for these 231 years.
Great post, Angel!

Here is the Orthodox Union’s prayer for the Welfare of the Government:
He Who grants salvation to kings and dominion to rulers, Whose kingdom is a kingdom spanning all eternities; Who releases David, His servant, from the evil sword; Who places a road in the sea and a path in the mighty waters - may He bless the President, the Vice President, and all the constituted officers of government of this land (The United States of America).
The King Who reigns over kings, in His mercy may He sustain them and protect them; from every trouble, woe and injury, may He rescue them; and put into their heart and into the heart of all their counselors compassion to do good with us and with all Israel, our brethern. In their days and in ours, may Judah be saved and may Israel dwell securely, and may the Redeemer come to Zion. So may it be His will.
Now let us respond: Amen. (Cong.- Amen.)

Too many have forgotten this.
Whether you’re conservative and believe in God or a lib and believe in Gaia, the moderating effect of religion constrains the evil that Men can do.
“Imagine no religion” — John Lennon. Yeah, John, imagine people with no respect for others, worried only about themselves, vying for dominance against each other every day, even on the smallest of issues. That would be quite a liberal world. T.H.Greene and Jane Addams would be proud of your dead, rotting philosophy, Mr Lennon (or was it Lenin?).

Nobody does it like the glorious RED WHITE & BLUE.
I have a rule, unless you can show me a better way, than this is the best way. Isn’t it interesting how much blood, sweat and tears were shed over slavery thru the years and now when we do enjoy real freedom, nobody is home to celebrate it.
Well thank God for you, Angel, for keeping what is right with America, front and center.
Go Hug a soldier today, and get down on your knees and thank the power above for all that is right with America….and try to remember it tommorrow.
