Marriage OpenTrackback Weekend
The keys to a successful marriage: Be faithful, have great s-ex and do the dishes.
So says a new survey of Americans, who have elevated helping with household chores to the level of fundamental requirement in a good relationship. Men and women shared similar views on the issue of helping around the house.
Key to Good Marriage: Do the Dishes
Doin the dishes eh?..Hmmmmmm.
We know that a good marriage doesn’t magically evolve out of a marriage ceremony.
A strong dose of knowledge, commitment, love and sacrifice always seems to facilitate closeness.
Couples who bring into play God–given truths instead of just following human instinct, which tends to be selfish in nature, tend to find long lasting happiness.
According to the Bible, Marriage is to honored and protected.
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
(Genesis 2:24).
Of course, it never hurts to bring a few “social skills” into the relationship eh.
Politeness, a bit of humility, (yea, even for you macho bravado dudes..heh) sincerity, sacrifice, empathy, concern, purity, devotion, hearts, flowers and chocolate go a longggggggg way. Heh.
Secularism and PCism has succeeded in destroying the cultural roots of our lives that preserved our fundamental social behavior. Cursing, porn-ography being mainstreamed and normalized, not to mention scantily clad women everywhere, even in the workplace, do harm to the sanctity of marital unions.
The only type of “intimacy” pop culture pushes is the pseudo-closeness people get from physical intimacy with someone they oftentimes hardly know.
True and honorable physical intimacy is based upon being intimate with your husband or wife’s heart.
What say y’all friends…what does make a good marriage?

We will be celebrating our 25th anniversary this year. I’m no expert, but
it helps if you treat your spouse with, at the very least, the respect & civility you would give to a co-worker. It also helps if your spouse is your friend.
Happy Friday!

and, what cube said – talk to your spouse in your “phone voice” – believe it or not, it’s not the same as your everyday voice.

People change a lot over the years, as they get older. My wife and I have been married 25 years in December and we are certainly not the people we were in 1982. The focus of your life changes as you age. We have had some rocky times, as I think all marriages do that last a long time, but it’s been a good marriage and we are both happy. Because we met in the military, and had similar lifestyles we never had “his or her” type chores. I help her in the house and she helps me out side. It has to be this way, as there are only the two of us now that the kids have gone off to Canada to school. One thing I learned and believe, it that men tend to become complacent over the years and stop doing the little things that communicate affection to their wives. Those things are important. Taking a wife for granted in the day to day press of surviving life is a mistake.

My wife and I will have been married 14 years on August 7. There are 4 things that have allowed us to stay married for all this time.
Communication: You have to be able to talk to eachother about things big and small. If you have kids, do a date night every month or so just to have a few hours to yourselves. Ladies… Guys are psychotic not psychic. Don’t bother with the hints, tell us what’s going on. Mind readers we ain’t…
Compassion: Guess what folks, you’re gonna screw up, that means you ladies as well.
You have to have compassion for each other’s mistakes and missteps.
Compromise: Pick your battles. If it’s not a big deal to let your other half do ‘X’ even though you have no interest in that activity, then don’t make a federal issue of it. If you win on one issue then let your spouse have their way on another one. If you have kids make sure you’re on the same page with things like punishments etc…
Faith: Faith in God, faith in each other. There is no way I could go back to college without my wife’s belief that I could actually finish this time.
Just my 2¢
July 20th, 2007 at 11:16 am
Having a hot wife who is a great cook helps.
Actually, sharing the same moral values, not just interests, call each other by first names, do a chore for her unexpectadly every now and then, one that she does….and if you have kids, give her a hall pass to from time to time to ahng with her friends.

It is amazing the number of posts from those who are celebrating 25 years of marriage this year. Our 25th is August 7 as well. Divorce is not an option – Murder – Possibly, but no divorce!
Hermit is very astute in the comment about not taking each other for granted. I think we all do that from time to time, but men seem to more often, probably because they’re not as much about emotions and feelings, but more about jobs, security, etc.
Great Post, Angel (as always!!!). Thank you! Have a great weekend.
