“Flag Burning” for HomeWorK

Please Vote for Angel HERE…Thanks!..heh

A University of Maine student alleges her former professor offered extra credit to class members if they burned the American flag or the U.S. Constitution or were arrested defending free speech.

Flag-burning ‘lesson’ provokes UM student

..At first, student Kathleen Dame said she thought Grosswiler was joking, but then he went on to explain to the class that burning the flag was not illegal. While Grosswiler approached the topic in a serious manner, Dame said she felt he used it as a tool to educate the class on the First Amendment.

Note this loser of a professor never suggested publicizing the Muuuuuuuuuhamad cartoons as freedom of expression.
NO NO NO. That would be “offensive”.

Can’t wait for the Libs to rush to his defense~!

You know the classic……..“Everything’s our fault” theory.

Bush is evil. Uh huh.

Rad Muzlims are simply freedom fighters and we are the evil ones occupying Iraq. bombaaa.gif

We torture captive Al Quai-da “freedom fighters” because wer’e mean.

We caused global warming.

We support the Zionist conspiracy and Israel. That’s reason enough to set a few U.S. flags on fire aint it. evilani1.gif

What?.Burn a Muzlim flag?..GOD no!
That’s not freedom of expression.
That’s rude, not to mention courting disaster and imminent death no doubt.

Besides, we all know Muzlims and Pales-tinians are “oppressed”.
And in case ya didn’t know….. Rove, Cheney, and Scooter are all Na-zis.

Let’s be honest friends.
Desecration of the American flag is a particularly provocative insult.

Our country prides itself on freedom of speech, and apparently some aim to test that freedom to its limits. There is nothing unfortunately in the Constitution’s definition of ‘freedom of expression’ that makes flag-burning illegal. I wish there were.

But we all know what a flagrant distortion flag burning is, of what the founding fathers fought for and how they defined “freedom.”

For mercys sake, our flag deserves special legal protection.
It is the definitive symbol of our history and heritage.

And spare me the rubbish that utilizing flag-burning as protest is a legitimate form of expression.

It is not. It does not invite any sort of debate, none whatsoever.

I wonder what this professor would hafta say bout the Pace University Kor-an-flusher.

How much ya wanna bet all of a sudden his idea of “freedom of expression” would mutate?

Yo professor.
Hand me a pencil and I’ll draw you a conclusion.

Just got out of the voting booth, at the BlogLog awards….casted my vote for Womanhonorthyself, will be back there in 24 hours, to vote again..what a great country…freedom to vote….
which brings me to your latest and (continued) greatest post….
it never ceases to amaze me..if one desires to make a statement, and in fact burn an American symbol. Then why not reach into your pocket and take out a handfull of 50′s and 100$$$$ dollar bills, which each have the America Flag and other goverment related icons, and put your trusty Bic lighter next to them and let them burn….until that method of protest becomes popular i will chose to ignore these weak attempt at getting my attention….
Continued Good Luck at the voting booth…it is an honor well deserved…

My sentiments are that it should not be illegal to burn the professor to use as fuel.

  5. benning says:

I don’t know of too many locales that allow burning things in public without a permit. So may I suggest that you call the police and complain that someone’s burning something in public. If they come and don’t take a name or anything then file a complaint.

They can burn the flag but they cannot burn what that flag stands for. They don’t grasp the concept of Liberty, so they resort to tactics aimed at distressing the populace. It doesn’t bother me.

Burn books! Burn Flags! You cannot burn the ideals, sacrifices, truths symbolized by those items. These remain the acts of petulant children.

    Let the authorities spank them.

  6. American Interests says:

Great work as usual Angel! Of course I did vote too…

  7. Gayle says:

I can’t say I agree with Benning. Burning the flag does bother me, even though he is right in saying they can’t burn what it stands for. Still, it offends me mightily!

Right now where I am in Texas we are under a burn ban for lack of rain. I wish some idiot would try burning the flag where I could see it. Especially the one I’m flying! No… for get it. They’d have to haul it down from a 25′ flagpole, all my watchdogs would go insane, and I’d be out there in a heartbeat with my shotgun. I don’t need the stress!

Voted for you again today, Angel, as I did yesterday and the day before and will until the 8th. I promise! :)

  8. A Little Revolution says:

Right on! I get so sick of these crazee libs!

  9. Goat says:

I voted for you Angel and put a link and promotion up for you. Flag burning, I don’t like it but it is free speech which I like, now if it is done to someone elses property while invading their property other laws apply. Like Gayle, try to burn mine, and the sting of rocksalt from a shotgun would meet them.

  10. Goat says:

Oh and cheers for making it and voted before I saw this, been busy.

  11. Dwana says:

“Hand me a pencil and I’ll draw you a conclusion.” Another classic line! And you’re right, Angel. If this professor believes in freedom of expression so much why doesn’t he tell his students to burn a Koran? ‘Cause he’s scared of the Muslims f-ing fatwas, that’s why!

  12. Dwana says:

Just voted for ya, baby girl. Two pence, four pence, six pence, a dollar. All for Angel stand up and holler!!!!

  13. MK says:

“They’d have to haul it down from a 25′ flagpole, all my watchdogs would go insane, and I’d be out there in a heartbeat with my shotgun.”

See, now that’s what i like about Texas, piss off a Texan and they’re likely to blow your head off, very polite bunch of folks too.

  14. Bot says:

I had this guy in class.

He actually did talk about the mohammad cartoons.

    He supported publishing them.

  15. Aurora says:

Great post, Angel. Bot, he might have talked about publishing Mohammed cartoons, but did he advocate burning the Qu’ran like he did the American flag? He sounds like an amoral waste of space.

  16. Always On Watch says:

    Extra credit with anti-American bias.

  17. cube says:

The schools are full of lefties like this prof. I’m tired of hearing about free speech when it’s anti-American hoopla. Why don’t they defend speech coming from the right, or a Christian’s right to be heard? Why, because it’s only free speech when it agrees with their leftist agenda!

If he didn’t mean it literally, then he shouldn’t have said it.

  18. frasypoo says:

    Will keep voting!!
That flag burning is nonsense. They should arrest this woman

  19. frasypoo says:

You are leading!!! You were at 445 votes when I left

NO NO NO. That would be “offensive”.

I see your point, but have you considered that he’s an American, in a classroom in America, and so used, for an example, a symbol that would move Americans?

As such, his point is valid. Flag burning is protected speech. Rude, and disrespectful, but also protected.

Where the prof went wrong was not expanding the symbols. Koran burning would, in this country, also be protected speech. Rude and disrespectful, but protected.

And that is the difference between US and THEM.

  21. Christi says:

Great post, as usual, Angel – heading over to vote for you now!

  22. Yankee Doodle says:

Angel, you forgot the water on the moon. Republicans polluted it.

Isn’t suicide bombing a protected form of speech? Tough way to get an A….

“I hope whoever sets our flag on fire catches fire themselves.

    Didnt that happen before? lol”
In one of P.J. O’Rourkes books, he describes watching a protest where the demonstrators can’t get the flag lighted. Its pretty funny the way he describes it.

  25. heidianne jackson says:

“See, now that’s what i like about Texas, piss off a Texan and they’re likely to blow your head off, very polite bunch of folks too. ”

ya know, mk, i’m learning that a texas sense of right and wrong don’t translate real well to the leanings in the state of missouri. most of the people i come in contact with say things like “oh, that’s right, you’re from texas” as if it’s a bad thing!?!?

great post angel. i don’t believe our founding fathers (and mothers) could have envisioned a time when people within the confines of our country would desecrate its national symbols. i remember watching the case make its way through the courts and the dismay when the supremes ruled that it was protected speech. a dark day in our history, imho…

  26. Seth says:

Great post as always, Angel, and you have my vote. :-)

  28. Mustang says:

Our Supreme Court holds that burning the American flag is an exercise of the right of freedom of expression. In essence, the American service men and women who died, or who were horribly injured while ensuring that the flag shall always wave over a free America, do so in order that others may burn that flag. If there is a social dichotomy, this has to be it. As I swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, I will obey the Supreme Court’s ruling—and for me, that isn’t even the question. No, the question I would like to have answered, not using some liberal’s talking points, but answered really well, is “What is it that motivates any American show such tremendous disrespect to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice?” I know — the question is rhetorical because most of us already know the answer.
