MISSING DADDY.
“The son of a servicemember clutches his “daddy doll” one evening recently when feeling his father’s absence more than usual. Operation Give a Hug of Takoma, Wash., works to comfort military children by making and giving them special dolls that can hold a photo of their deployed parent.”
Amazing.
Everyone can make a Difference

Everyone has a special gift to offer.

Just in time for the holidays, 13 major recording artists have created a musical “Thank You” for the troops.
Artists Create CD to Thank Troops“CD for the Troops” will be available for anyone with a valid military identification card to download at no cost from the Army and Air Force Exchange Service Web site, www.aafes.com, beginning tomorrow.
Getting this project, which combined the music of Billy Joel, Brooks & Dunn, the Goo Goo Dolls, Jewel, Josh Groban, Los Lonely Boys, Melissa Ethridge, the Neville Brothers, Sarah McLachlan, the Lt. Dan Band, Montgomery Gentry, The Fray, and Five For Fighting, to troops’ ears took true teamwork. John Ondrasik, the singer-songwriter who performs under the stage name “Five For Fighting,” was intimately involved with making sure that happened.

WooHoo, stars with some patriotism shootin through their veins!
Remember those names.
Having been given the blessing of working with our Troops and families, I have set my eyes on just how they represent the backbone and fighting spirit of our blessed Nation. I salute them with all the force and loyalty my heart can marshal.

Whatever inimitable “gift” you have to offer sweet friends…: Offer it. Do it now.

Tis the Season~!

Hooah!

We have a program in our town called, “adopt a soldier” for Thanksgiving. Though many of our local kids are deployed, most of the single soldiers found a home with a family for Thanksgiving. We hosted the wife of a deployed soldier at our house.

The doll is a really great idea….
Are those personal pics? Thanks for the reminder that not everyone spent the holiday with their families…and yes, in betweens visits of neasua, I was thankful!

This post was great…..I was just reading a blog by Mack in GB where troops were insulted and told to leaave a swimming pool because they had been wounded in Iraq or Afganestan and they might scare the Children. That is ourageous behavior by anyone….stay well…..

A touching post, Angel. I’m not too sure I believe there really are patriotic entertainers out there, though, except for actor Gary Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band. And I love the pic with the rifles under the table.

Good posting Angel, they’re notable programs, the musical thank you CD and daddy dolls. Showed my 9 year son the image of little boy clutching his daddy doll and discussed the bravery of our fighting troops and the emotions of those left behind…
off topic: As you may have read at Aurora’s excellent site, conservatives took a blow in the election over here yesterday. The fight continues…

this post brought a tear to my eye…

Nice to see some of those names one usually does not see associated with support of our troops! Good on them.
I also love the daddy doll..
and this post is a good reminder to get my act in gear and start donating to some of my fave soldier organizations.. like Operation Gratitude and Treats for Troops.

Yeah good on those artists, it’s a welcome change from the usual from many of the stars. Far as I’m concerned the real stars are over in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere.

Happy Thanksgiving (3 days late… sorry). I hope you have a blessed season of joy and peace!

What a great post hun and a wonderful reminder to us all how grateful we should be for our troops and their families–they sacrifice so much and the wee ones do not always understand. All the wee ones do understand is that daddy or mommy is not their to hug and kiss them, tuck them in bed at night and read to them–to say goodnight. My heart aches for the little one.

thanks for this feel-good post. I sure needed it.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

Wonderful post, Angel, and of course there are some patriotic stars. Problem is, the only ones we get to hear about most of the time are the idiots. Idiots always make more noise than anyone else. Little kids make more noise than most grown ups. The idiots are nothing but little kids that never grew up!
November 25th, 2007 at 3:13 pm
Sorry… I take that back. Most little kids have a lot more sense than the idiots. I don’t know what to compare them to. I guess they are creatures of their own making.

Such a great post, wht! I love the idea of the ‘daddy doll’. Thanks for the honor and tribute to our guys and gals!

Great idea about the dolls, Angel. Also you can send Christmas Cards to soldiers in theater, in military hospitals, and you can send books to the military. All of us can help somehow.
(Angel, Yes, I am getting your trackbacks.)

Sunday Reading 11/25/07…
For today’s Sunday Reading, let’s look at what’s going on in the world. An unclassified threat assessment written by the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI in advance of the Middle-East peace conference at the U.S. Naval Academy on…

I am sure you know my policy by now…if it is/can be said better by someone else, i defer to them…

You can’t handle the truth!
Son, we live in a world with
walls that must be guarded.
Who’s gonna do it? You?
You, Lt. Weinberg?
I have more responsibility
than you can fathom.
You weep for Santiago
and curse the Marines.
You don’t know what I know.
Santiago’s tragic death saved lives.
And my existence,
while grotesque to you, saves lives!
But deep down, in places
you don’t talk about at parties, -
- you need me on that wall.
We use words like
honour, code, loyalty.
They’re the backbone of our lives.
You use them as a punchline!
I haven’t the time or inclination
to explain myself -
- to a man who needs my protection -
- but questions the way I do it.
Better just to thank me.
Or pick up a gun and stand a post.
But I don’t give a damn
what you think you are entitled to….
So when it is all said and done….we say it and they do it!!!!
thank the troops and all the armed forces that make our dreams that much more pleasant…..

THANK U ALL FOR YOUR BEAUTIFUL WORDS AND SENTIMENTS FOR OUR BELOVED TROOPS!

Very, very nice. It is so good to still see heart in America.

Did you notice that almost half the artists are country singers/groups? Next to classical music, country is somewhat near to my heart.
Happy Late Thanksgiving! Very encouraging post.
