I’m getting a fancy dinner out this year. Like last year. My kids gave me a laptop last year. Who knows what this year. I’m hoping for maybe a nice spa treatment.

Just got back from dinner with the kids and their mother (my wife) the only thing better than the “kodak” moment was my wife!!

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the very first Mother’s Day service, started by the devotion of Anna Jarvis. “The first Mother’s Day service was celebrated on 10 May 1908.” Anna Jarvis sought to honor her own mother (Ann Jarvis) who died in 1905, after having devoted her life to improving personal sanitation and reconciling neighbors in th wake of the Civil War.
“In 1914 President Woodrow Wilson declared the first national Mother’s Day, as a day for American citizens to show the flag in honor of those mothers whose sons had died in war.”
Ironically enough, “Nine years after the first official Mother’s Day, commercialization of the U.S. holiday became so rampant that Anna Jarvis herself became a major opponent of what the holiday had become.”
