StrawberrY Shortcake Grows Up?

American Greetings will soon introduce new and improved Care Bears with “less belly fat, longer eyelashes.” But that’s not all! This change comes as part of a larger movement to update the animated friends of our youth.

Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears to Receive Makeovers; Childhood Spoiled

Other “improvements” you can look forward to (or not): The company’s new Strawberry Shortcake is way skinnier (thanks to a more “fruit-forward” diet), and she has replaced her calico cat with a cell phone.

The scoffers minimize and ridicule those of us who mourn the Loss of innocence and all its moral implications………..

No more modest outfit or childlike appearance for you Strawberry Shortcake. No no no.

Why not go all the way and put all little childrens’ dolls in halter tops and short shorts while wer’e at it eh?

She musn’t have freckles, or be pudgy. Uh uh. Her figure must be svelte and her skin- silky smooth.
Tighter clothes, longer hair, and of course……….. a smaller nose.
Every single female, no matter how young or what she represents– must be sexualized.

Sure, it’s time to pretty up Strawberry Shortcake with that wide-eyed vacant look that all Disney heroines have.

Se-xing up women isn’t enough. No siree shortcake. We must s-ex up our babies and little girls as well.
Ever look at at a Bratz doll?..with their huge heads, long eyelashes, long flowing hair and
po-rno outfits? Who exactly is playing with her?

And since when did Strawberry Shortcake suddenly morph into a 10 year old? She looked about 3 or so, but 10 has soooooooo much more “perv potential” doesn’t it?

Replacing her pet cat with a cell phone? Now, that’s pricless.

After all what good is a purely innocent “childlike” figure anyway?

So, where’s her bare midriff shirt and belly ring?..Or do those accessories cost extra?

It is the Barbie culture that is driving young girls to insist on plastic surgery at a young age, cause the epidemic of anorexia and bulimia and forces young girls to view themselves as sexual objects.

Have you ever witnessed a child’s beauty pageant? They should be outlawed! Young girls are made up to look sexy for judges. A pedophiles dream!

We should let our children be children!

  3. Terry_JIm says:

The new “Strawberry Shortcake” looks a lot less like Raggity Ann than the old one, and more like a young “Little Mermaid”.
Surely the marketers of saccharine sweet cartoons and their cross marketed birthday decorations and backpacks are trying to reach a market of kids who have never seen Raggedy Ann and Andy.
Gone are the yarn hair and bloomers,
but she still looks like she is dressed modestly.
(Her undergarments no longer show from under her skirt, incidently.)

I completely agree with your assesment of Bratz dolls,
we wouldn’t let our girls have the little hookers either.

What a sick feeling to realize that that one snuck in right under our noses. What is it with trying to force a sexualized image on little girls? The rock spiders will be rubbing their hands in glee.

  6. Gayle says:

ARRRGGGGH! What are they going to sexualize next? Teddy Bears? The thing is, Angel, just like Barbie Dolls, the kids will be yelling for them and most parents will buy them! Our society has gone to hell already and now it’s digging even deeper.

UGH! I will take the old Strawberry Shortcake and the Old Barbie’s without the midriff showing any day. It is all about sex appeal. SPIT!

  14. Defiant_Infidel says:

Angel, it is so true. And it is pervasive everywhere, from toys to television.

We’re gearing up and preparing for the hopeful adoption of the wife’s recently orphaned baby nephew. The little woman and I have begun watching “children’s” programming to vet the crap and filth from what might remain. Not unexpected, really, but we’re sure disappointed to find that very little remains! Kids don’t care about or know “Tom and Jerry”, “Bugs Bunny” or “Mayberry, RFD”. Even the very few “late model” programming that we have found to attempt to convey actual values and principles do so with ultra short skirts, ball caps on ass backwards (or sideways! UGH!), pants down around the ankles, mature woman’s war paint, piercings, tattoos and vertical pink hair. Everything has become a game of “image projection” from a hollow, empty source. We have lost or abandoned so much of what made us once human. Integrity and honor have been swapped for base, mundane commonality.

An interesting, yet sad, change of gears for your blog… and a great post. Thanx for sharing it with us.

My daughter used to like Strawberry Shortcake. The red hair reminded her of her own.

  16. The Random Yak says:

Dead on, Angel, and well said. It is a pathetic commentary on our society when even the innocent role models must become “grown up” and sexualized too soon. I pity the parents of any young girls – though probably we should all be praying for them, and for their daughters. It is a sad thing when girls have nothing better than Disney Princesses and hypersexualized toys to provide them with childhood fantasy – a word that used to have more to do with rainbows and unicorns than XXX rated websites.

  17. JMK says:

Sadly the MSM has been doing this for years.

It’s been said that if we knew how many pervs (pedophiles) are in high places, we’d be outraged.

Perhaps one day, such a report will come out.

Still, there’s no question that the sexualizing of children in our culture is no accident.

20+ years ago when my oldest was turning one she had a cinderella doll cake that my grandmother made for her. that started a love affair between my daughter and all things cinderella.

but since disney grouped all their girls together and called them their “disney princesses” my daughter doesn’t like her so much. she says, it’s not the same…

she still has the watch i gave her that was mine when i was a little girl. and she still has the original cells from the original disney cinderella movie – but she doesn’t want any of the new stuff.

come to think of it, she also still has her raggedy ann and andy on her bed and knows every word in every seuss book. and my youngest’s (she’s nearly 16) favorite “song” is “there was an old lady who swallowed a fly…” she’s possibly the only teenager of current day who knows this song as well as every mother goose rhyme there is. when we were kids, everyone knew these things…

There is something about “the good old days” that the people of today can’t, won’t leave alone.
