July 4th ..woohoo

It is easy to take liberty for granted, when you have never had it taken from you.
Dick Cheney
I’ll say!
OK. OK. OK.
I’m not usually this demaning sweet friends..
but this holiday I INSIST y’all serve some patriotic, red white and blue food…………………..or at least decorate for heaven’s sake.
Quitcher whinin and git started eh?
Here are some pointers or ideas that you may freely steal.
But I expect a report from each one of yaz on what you plan to do or did..(that includes you too my Aussie friends..and you know who you are!)
Sooo, without further ado.
I present Angel’s “Red White and Blue.”

C’mon…here’s one of the easiest ones for the lazy patriots out there. heh
Fruit Cups: Yum.

1 pint strawberries
1 pint blueberries
1 pint fresh blackberries (if you like ‘em)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 pint heavy whipping cream
Slice up those fresh strawberries and combine in a bowl with blue and/or blackberries. Phew. OK..That was the hardest part.
Sprinkle those yummy berries with two teaspoons of sugar.
Whip cream until soft peaks form and then sweeten with the remaining sugar.
Serve the colorful berries in purdy cups with “very” generous spoonfuls of fresh whipped cream. Mmmmmmmm.

Alright. By a show of hands……who tried these?

How bout these?

Ya don’t need to be Martha Stewart to try these..Heck- Go for it.

For the fellas. Heh.

For the girls. woot!

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.
Erma Bombeck
Freedom is the oxygen of the soul.
Moshe Dayan

Have a fabulous July 4th weekend boys and girls.

From every mountain side
Let Freedom ring.
Hugs and Kisses..Now git ta work cookin n decoratin!

Open Trackbacks all weekend!

Creative and different ways to say “I love you” to this greatest nation of all, Angel! I am going to put the finishing touches on super spiffing the old creaky domicile… it doesn’t make it new, but it sure does make it HOME! Then it will be steaks on the grill, similarly grilled veggie chunks ‘n slices, ice cold green beers (I still drink Rolling Rock on special days like this, even though they are now bottled in NJ… HA!) and warm thoughts about how much I care for this beautiful freedom. What a gift, that people we never knew would die… to guarantee for all of us. I adore this day. It is one of our most joyous celebrations.
I want to remind you also that there is a continued wish for you and your loved ones to enjoy to your heart’s content. In a bustling city of so many, YOU stand out so individually. Almost everyday, you write and dissect the issue of the day for all of us. You inspire and preserve our faith. You encompass the true spirit of Independence Day… everyday. I hope you can grasp even an inkling of your contribution to what makes America the BEST place for all of us.
Sincerely… THANK YOU, Angel… from ALL of us.
Happy Birthday, America!

I have a special red, white, and blue purse to use for July 4th, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day. And, of course, my Rosie shirt.
Because Mr. AOW has to work at the VFW tonight, I’ll be celebrating at that particular post — with our veterans, and likely one or two from WWII. No cookout, no dancing, but an evening with patriots who put their lives on the line.
God bless America, on this her birthday!

Happy Birthday America, may you have many, many more and thank you for what you are, a beacon for what is good, for freedom, for liberty, for hope in this dark and dangerous world and for being the protective brother who we don’t appreciate and acknowledge enough.
Thank you most of all to your sons and daughters who put their lives on the line, in distant parts of the world for those they don’t even know, for something bigger than themselves.

We had a fabulous fourth!
My brother and his wife, their son Peter, and my dad and his wife all are heading out on a Cruise to Alaska today. yesterday they stopped by our house for a fourth of July barbeque and to celebrate Sidney’s first birthday (about a week late).
The menu was grilled hamburgers and all the trimmings, and bratwurst cooked on the grill with potato salad, macaroni salad, watermellon, grapes, baked beans, crackers and crab dip, sodas, beer, iced tea, hot tea, and that was just for lunch!
For dinner we had two smoked turkey breasts, that had been smoking over Mesquite chunks all day, and we had all the leftovers from lunch.
Then we had Sidney’s birthday celebration with orange cheesecake!
We topped it off with a night of fireworks that was something to behold. Sidney really liked that part.
I hope yours was really good too.
