Decision follows complaints by magazine editor.
Across Atlanta they stood, orange signs with black letters that read “Men At Work” or “Men Working Ahead.”
Sometimes, the signs stood next to women working alongside the men.Good demanded Atlanta officials remove the signs and last week, Atlanta Public Works Commissioner Joe Basista agreed.

I think the feminist movement had its use. Back in the day, women weren’t allowed to wear shorts or pants, they were kept out of jobs for no good reason, and if you go back farther, couldn’t vote or own property. Kind of like the world under Sharia law.
Nowadays, it isn’t needed. If you want to do something, just go do it. I wouldn’t expect all men to pass the firefighter exam any more than I would
all women. If you’re not strong enough, then do something else. Employment should be merit-based, not some PC crap.

Great post, Angel. I remember reading about women’s rights in the USSR during the cold war. The USSR bragged that women were more equal in the USSR than the U.S. Of course, left wingers touted the propaganda to bash Reagan. Anyway, it turned out that it was true. Women were holding jobs that traditionally were mens’ jobs. However, there was also an epidemic of back injuries among women. The USSR was giving women hard labor jobs in the name of equality. Unfortunately, left wing feminists want to do the same thing in this country and call it progress.

I’ve never seem a woman doing hard labor on the highways. All I’ve ever seen them do is hold the signs. Big difference and not exactly “equal” work, for equal pay.
If women can do equal work, fine. However, I believe that the military, police, fire departments all have different standards for women than men, different requirements for passing physical exams. But when they partner up, it is obvious that the woman cannot do the SAME job as the men.

And you know how I feel about women and liberation. Women think they came a long way back when - yeah in the ’70’s and sure a few things are better, but we still make .75 cents to every 1.00 they make.
But that does not bother me as much as it does when I see women using their sex appeal and dressing up seductively to make money or get mens attention.
That sets us back 100 years and if that kind of control is what they think of calling women’s liberation then they are sick, just sick! PFFFFT!

They got to back up the “Men at Work” signs. It’s advertising to me. I stop, ogle the guys, whistle at them a bit, and go on my way.
BTW: The women holding those signs have a very dangerous job. Many of the men and women who do that job die each year by drivers. They should get hazardous duty pay.
And the military doesn’t discriminate between men and women. Women in their units are EXPECTED to do the exact same job as their male counterparts and they get the same pay. They do the same job, and many women have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan doing their jobs.

You have described “selective social conscience.” It is difficult to argue with N.O.W. when they support gender equality among all citizens … for who in their right mind thinks that women should be abused by their husbands, paid less than their male counterparts, or have less career opportunity. Sadly, we have to question NOW’s credibility when they remain silent about such issues as honor killings, genital mutilation, and polygamous marriages (which, I feel, are happening in this country every day – out of sight, out of mind). Selective conscience is typically far left of left … and I honestly do not understand how they can justify it.

I saw the “Men @ Work” story and thought the same direction, Angel… then I came here figuring you would post about the “contrast”. You simply never disappoint!
I had a lengthy conversation with a lifelong avowed, hyper liberal academic last night. (Berkeley… enough said?) When I mentioned Shariah Law, I was met with a confused, empty look. My jaw visibly dropped when I was asked to “spell it”. You guessed it… spelling didn’t help.
“What is it?”
I just looked at the floor and replied quietly, “You’ll know soon enough.”
