Weblog Awards 2008

Ah yes…Our culture’s love affair with “winners” and by default…”losers.”

Which brings me to…
The 2008 Weblog Awards that I was disguished to be a part of.

Question, sweet friends:
Can human achievement or fulfillment be defined in terms of what you “won”?

After all….Who wouldn’t want to be “Number One”?

But if you truly think “Winning is Everything”, then “Losing”– will have the power to scar your life and even damage your relationships.

Healthy competition can bring out the best in us for sure.
Heck. It makes ya go all out.
Do your best.
Do your utmost.
Make every effort.

It can thrust you to new heights of performance and help you realize your potential.

But while competition can fuel ingenuity and skill, it also gives free rein to equally dehumanizing traits that harm our spirits and soil our souls.

-Little League games bring out the one parent who does nothing but shriek and insult the referee.

-Runners or bikers maliciously cut each other off on the track, regardless of the injury that may ensue.

-Heck, Presidential elections: Need I say more?

Personal attacks against fellow bloggers in the blogosphere.

The outwitting. The outmaneuvering.
Libs cursing and defaming Conservatives. (but what else is new eh?)

And for what goal?
Money?
Power?
Fame?

If winning means a job well done..well then, most of y’all are winners by a long ways.

Let’s be honest.
The blogosphere, just like the rest of the world…doesn’t always get it right.
Hussein Obama?..Nuff said.

To my fellow opponents:

If you won fair and square (without inviting hordes of Facebook strangers who never even read your blog to vote, or paying off people or offering free links…yup it all happened..ha)
..then Huge Congrads! Enjoy the moment.

If you lost, whatever ya do…Don’t interpret it in any shape or form as a threat to your worth or identity.

Don’t blame yourself or anyone else for that matter and DON’T BE EMBARRASSED.

“You’ve got to get to the stage in life where going for it is more important than winning or losing.”
Arthur Ashe

Huge props to Kevin Aylward , Sean Gleeson, the formidable Judges:
Matt D, Jon, Carol, Charlie, Lisa, Kate, Kevin G., Amanda, Susan, William, Erik, Jim (who perhaps I shoulda bribed..just kiddin folks..ha) and to all - over at The Weblog Awards
They’re fabuloso.

So is my buddy Jon who spent hours endorsing fellow bloggers. If that’s not a winner, then what is?

Speaking of winning…

I won this award last year at this time.
And, yes……Winning feels good. Real good.

The feelings evoked by losing seem um… more complicated, almost an admixure of psychological reactions, which necessitates lots of self talk and reassurance. (I’m ok, I’m ok, I’m ok. ha)

Heck, Most of my Israeli fans couldn’t vote this year…so…guess what….we can blame my upcoming loss on Ham-ASS and call it a day.

Is Angel just bein a Sore loser?
Sore…heck yea.
Loser?..Never.

Thanks sweet friends for voting..but mostly for reading..and allowing me the honor of being a part of your precious lives.

Heck. One more day:angels_6.gif
GO vote wouldya!!

As the late great Vince Lombardi said….
“The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have…”
“It is time for us all to stand and cheer for the doer, the achiever — the one who recognizes the challenges and does something about it…”
and the one that says it best for you Angel…
“The Green Bay Packers never lost a football game. They just ran out of time.”
Some people sit on their Rump and wonder what happened ,some Chat about what is happening, some make Nice about things happening..
But you….our Angel bring it every day and MAKE things happen, to all your readers and fans you will always be a WINNER!!!!!!!!

  5. Katie says:

    XOXOXOXOXOXOXOHUGS HUGS HUGS HUGS XOXOXOXOXOXOXO

How’s THAT for a first place award to my favorite Angel? Hope I picked up your spirits a bit. Luv Ya Babe!

  9. DemoCaster says:

First of all, thank you for writing this.

I don’t know what inspired you, but you’ve helped me make peace with my frustration at having been selected a finalist in a no-win situation, i.e., a high-quality, but politically incorrect, political anti-Israelism-exposing magazine tossed into a category (Best Video Blog) against populist-appealing, bikini-thong-ed,”How To” community blogs in a quantitatively measured contest. This week was Consumer Electronic Show and in attending it, I wasn’t able to work the system to stimulate the vote by offering free porn webcams or $100 online casino credits.

To be valid, the judging mechanism should be impartial and qualitative- otherwise we just come up with what is the most popular, which doesn’t actually represent “the Best” blogs which it claims. I don’t like being perceived as biting the hand that feeds me, but I’m hoping maybe we can persuade Kevin to actually change the format - or risk being eclipsed by a competing Award.

  10. Batman says:

No matter what Angel, you’re a winner to me ;)

  11. Batman says:

No matter what, you’re a winner to me ;)

  12. Debbie says:

You probably noticed that Right Truth was not included this year, because they based the entries on Technorati. Technorati removed Right Truth because they apparently did not like my content. Even though I have over a million page views, my authority was 2,252, I’m 78 in Wikio blogs, I’m in the top 200 at The Truth Laid Bear, and on and on.

So much for fairness. When I contacted Technorati, no response.

  13. EDGE says:

You’ll always be a winner with me Angel! HA!

    :)

  14. JMK says:

It IS disheartening and more than a little bizarre that some folks would try and stack the voting via free links and exhorting FaceBook friends to vote for an award that by itself will not make them better at what they do.

You put together a great blog Angel….great visuals to go with insightful commentary, THAT’S a winning formula.

Awards like this should probably be voted on by an impartial panel, not in a forum open to flooding and stacking by unscupulous entrants.

You’re blog is GREAT and you’re a winner all the way.

  15. ben says:

    You got my votes.

  16. Pamela D. Hart says:

    You got my vote, Angel!

But on a lighter note…does the government do blog bailouts?

  17. Defiant_Infidel says:

I agree with Z and JMK completely. Your efforts are reliable, thorough and detailed. You deliver consistently. Your readers prove your output, Angel. We read you because you count and because your contributions are substantive. The good people that follow/endorse your work should be the proudest award you could capture. And you do… every time. (You earn that, too.)

Congratulations on your continued success! ;)

  18. Gayle says:

I second DI’s comment, Angel, and I voted for you every day too! Hey girl, at least you did not come in last. You didn’t come in second to last either, so you can be proud of what you didn’t do. :)

  19. Layla says:

You know I voted for you every day. But to me it did not matter if you won or not - to me you are already the winner. I know what woman really honors herself and other women. It is their problem and loss if they do not!

    Love you kiddo! Hugs! xxxx

  20. OMMAG says:

Welll …. I did vote for you as often as I could…Does it matter if you did not beat out all the others?

Nope ….. competition does weed out the weak and the undeserving. You see now that you’ve been into the fray the only way you could loose is by shying away.

  21. Veritas says:

You’re a winner in my book, Angel.

  22. Angel says:

THANKS SWEET FRIENDS FOR ALL DA LUV!
CAN’T BE TOO GREEDY…I LET SOMEONE ELSE HAVE IT THIS YEAR…ha :)

  23. Otto - American Interests says:

You have done a great job here regardless of awards…
