Judging Women by their Looks

Orli Levy, Pnina Rosenblum, Ruhama Avraham Balila, and Anastassia Michaeli ranked among most beautiful female politicians in world in Spanish newspaper’s online poll.
And where is Sarah Palin?
Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik did not make the list
Absent from the list are German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Finnish President Tarja Halonen and former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Israeli politicians ranked among most beautiful in world

Gee. I wonder why the words sexist and demeaning leap to mind.

No matter how successful women are: THEY WILL ULTIMATELY BE MEASURED BY THEIR APPEARANCE.
That is not flattering.
It is demeaning.
Pitting female politicians against one another and trying to embarass those “unfortunates” who didn’t make the “list.” Why is that acceptable, especially — to other women?
Female role models?

Media showcasing successful women almost always scantily clad on television and in movies.
Lawyers with cle-avage.
Police officers donning skin tight, revealing halter tops to work with hardened criminals. Uh huh.
“Fashion shows” that are in essence: Por-nography.
Tennis players wearing, well……….next to nothing actually.
It is always a no win for women.
If you’re deemed ugly- you lose.
If you’re deemed beautiful- you are weighed and measured (especially by bald middle aged men) and trivialized.

And foolishly, women collude with this demoralization, criticizing and judging their fellow women based on looks too.
The sex culture is destroying women and thier essence.

When Sarah Palin accepted the Republican nomination for vice-president, people unendingly pointed out her beauty and “sexual power.”
More people googled “Sarah Palin in bikini” on this site than any other search.
And the very name of this site is “WOMAN HONOR THYSELF.”
Discussions and debates raged endlessly about the Alaska governor’s attractiveness and how it will affect the race.
Men salivating and falling all over themselves because she’s so “pretty”.
Pictures of her red high-heels were highlighted on Yahoo news.
Ah yes..the “sexy librarian” looks.

Newscasters, bloggers: men and women, and even Conservative radio talk show hosts think nothing of insulting older women by calling them shrunken and wrinkled. If the woman has cosmetic surgery to avoid the humiliation, they taunt her about that as well.
Now, the media comments on Hussein O’s wife’s toned “arms.” and no one thinks twice about how audacious and inapproriate this is.

We accept bigoted misogynists.
We join with them.

Don’t bother trying to equate mens’ plight with womens by pointing out some man who was deemed “attractive” by the media.
Men, do not need looks to get by..and we all know it.
Look at some the male candidates who have run for office.
No one mentioned their bald heads, acne, fat stomachs or what color shoes they wore.
Their wives, on the other hand, were fodder and analyzed and shredded endlessly.
What did she wear?
What kind of jewerlry?
Was it designer?
Was it flattering?
Did she look FAT?!

Female candidates receive savage treatment by the media.
Simply because they are women.
High time for women to STOP allowing themselves to be “measured” for the impact their looks and sexuality have ………in Sports, Art, Music, Politics..and everything else.
Polls that judge female beauty just remind us how vapid, shallow and empty we have truly become as a society.

How about a competency test?
In order to get a job.. You have to demonstrate that you have at least 2 lil brain cells in your head that can occasionally collide and produce a thought.
How about that?

Another great post. The only thing I can really respond to is the reason men do as they do. We’re visually wired. In nearly every case I’ve ever heard of, men choose women by their looks first, then appreciate them for their minds after the hormones slow down.
As for women? You’re on your own as to why women eat their own the way they do. I’ve never seen a wolf that was nearly as territorial as the human female.

i think you hit upon an issue that is as old as time and is horribly exacerbated by today’s msm. the talentless, but good-looking, overrun hollywood movies and tv shows, while those with real talent but maybe not the societal ‘good looks’ do local theater and plays….
i don’t know an answer. women should be proud of who they are and not let the culture drive! we should celebrate everyone.

Two things came to mind reading this post. Many have said men are not judged this way. Meaning not judged on looks to the same degree women are. And you mention that women ‘collude’ in this. For many years, suspecting long standing cultural influences, I wondered why women’s lives were so dominated by the use of cosmetics and all the other related rituals to which most subscribe.
The funny thing to me is in the rest of ‘nature’ it is a role reversal. The male of the species goes through all sorts of bizarre efforts to win the approval of females most notably showing off some sort of physical attributes intended to impress and quite regularly includes colorful adornments or show of strength or courage.
But with the human species the practice that judges women by looks is not limited to finding a mate.
Ok girls, chuck the make-up and stop drawing attention to various body parts.

Men are visual…. that’s the way we are. How ever the media is the problem not us.
Also, the many many liberal, bitter, angry women…. especially in academia and politics are ugly.
So that’s thrown in the mix.
But what really get’s me is B. Hussein Obama, the most controversial figure in history, is considered a sex pot and what a man should be. How dare the media and liberal women
dumb down what we should be.
Love,

All one has to do is watch Fox News to know this is true. All the women broadcasters are eye candy to please the lust of the male viewers!

You are absolutely right about the presence of women. However, I do like to have my lady leaders to be sophicated enough to dress for their position. Sec. of State Conde Rice was gorgeous and was a excellent image for her position. I was so proud to see her playing the piano for the Queen.
I am guilty of being a sort of chauvinist - I wrote a comment on my political blog about all the big deal being made about Michelle’s arms. Maybe this fits in with what your subject matter. There is a two edge sword here - different values for women and men and there’s never going to be any change - unless the youngins coming up see the value of women and their contributions more than sex. We’ll see. Good post. Thanks! You’re one of my favorites!

Great job Angel….
simply put…i always visualize my grandmothers, mother, wife and daughters whenever these type of discussions arise, and all i can see is their “Depth of Beauty” and their priceless contribution to my life and to those around them. The fact they they are attractive is only enhanced by their qualities….

Excellent article and so true. But look at former great female leaders, Margaret Thatcher, Golda Meier. Both great leaders, neither one beautiful in the world’s view.

I find the most beautiful women to be confident and outspoken.
You are right on this, Angel. I have no idea why women go after their own. Perhaps being steeped in such a misogynist environment for so long has made it’s impact on the female mind?

The image of femininity promoted by the media is quite unattainable for us hard-working, REAL women!
I’m with Gayle about the “foxes” on FNC. I grow weary of that image being promoted there as well.

A complex problem whose solution doesn’t lend itself to a quick, easy answer. Women are often harder on women than men are. Until that changes, the status quo will remain.
