The term “hacker” once referred to an expert programmer who could solve programming problems when there was no built-in function to do it.
The solution was called thus called a “hack.”
“Hackers” received negative connotations after they became associated with illegal computer break-ins.
Malicious hackers may find and exploit weak spots in the security system of a Web site or network.
I.T.’s however, refer to them as “crackers.” (bet some of y’all didn’t know that eh?) 
Crackers break into computer systems or networks for various reasons.
Some do it to expose security holes, others to steal information, cause some trouble, or just for the sheer challenge (fun?) of it.
Crackers may destroy files, steal financial information, leave behind viruses, and all sorts of “interesting” things.
Some hackers even have an ethic which is predicated on a belief that all technical information should be free to everyone, so gaining unauthorized entry into a system would not be considered unethical provided the intentions are not malicious.
A “higher” level is known as a “hoover”, who can suction a lot of information out of a network’s computer. (cool term eh?..lol) 
Then youv’e got your “Samurais”.
A samurai is an expert programmer who is actually hired by a company to break into a company’s computer system or Web site to test for security holes.
In case your’e waiting for the Liberals to start shouting “cyber-terrorism” at the Israelis, have a look at this if you haven’t already.
Hackers broke into the computers at the Pentagon, in 1999,as well as the Web sites of the Army, NASA, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. For what noble purpose?
Hey. This is war people.
A hacker is essentially a hired gun, cannon,or bomb.
Feel free to insert your weapon of choice.

I.T.’s however, refer to them as “crackers.”
That goes to show you that I.T.’s are stupid people because a Cracker is one who Cracks Codes, ie Codes for Programs and Codes for Devices where a Hacker is one who Hacks into Sites via through open ports.
People who walk around with nose up in the air with the degrees of being I.T.’s are really lame, only the elites of the Computer Technology world know the real difference. Degrees in “Imformtion Technology” is a lame degree meaning I don’t really know a lot about any one specific topic just kind of know a little bit about a lot of things, where as Crackers know the everything about Coding ie Assembly Language / Binary / Hexidecimal / Octal. Hackers know the Unix Blue Book of Transfer Technology meaning every thing to do with using port enhancing technology how to gain access to a computer in ways that would boggle the mind of most IT’s.

I knew it, I knew it! Yay! (Referring to the hackers/crackers thing.) I read it while teaching myself the pc over the internet. (that’s “pc” for personal computer, not for “politically correct”, thank goodness.)
