The Optimist
Author Unknown, More Sower’s Seeds
There is a story of identical twins. One was a hope-filled optimist. “Everything is coming up roses!” he would say. The other twin was a sad and hopeless pessimist. He thought that Murphy, as in Murphy’s Law, was an optimist.
The worried parents of the boys brought them to the local psychologist.
He suggested to the parents a plan to balance the twins’
personalities.
“On their next birthday, put them in separate rooms to open their gifts. Give the pessimist the best toys you can afford, and give the optimist a box of manure.” The parents followed these instructions and carefully observed the results.
When they peeked in on the pessimist, they heard him audibly complaining, “I don’t like the color of this computer . . I’ll bet this calculator will break . . . I don’t like the game . . . I know someone who’s got a bigger toy car than this . . .”
Tiptoeing across the corridor, the parents peeked in and saw their little optimist gleefully throwing the manure up in the air. He was giggling. “You can’t fool me! Where there’s this much manure, there’s gotta be a pony!”
What say you sweet friends.
Are you an optimist or pessimist eh?

As you can see, Angel, I’ve finally managed to leave a trackback! YAY!
Regarding the pessimist/optimist story, I read it to my daughter who jokingly stuck out her lower lip and in a childish voice said “I want a pony!” (She was kidding… she’s getting ready to go to college.) So I told her I wouldn’t buy her a pony but I was willing to compromise; on her next birthday I’ll give her a box of manure! She said “That’s okay Mom. I pass!”

It varies for me…I’m an optomist if I’ve had my coffee, and I’m able to listen to the morning radio in my cubicle uninterrupted. I’m a pessimist if I have to explain something to someone more than once…it’s a faith in humanity type thing. What are the peaks like without their valleys right?

[...] Anyway, to answer Michele’s question regarding what I love about blogging, my favorite parts are posts like this, just talking about the sweet little guy and enjoying every moment (and all his messes too!). I’m saving all this for him to enjoy later in life - it’s more fun than a regular memories book and I can share it with everyone else too! I’ve been just amazed by the people that truly seem to enjoy hearing about my little guy and our exploits - with all the blogs and people on the web, you don’t expect to really be noticed or anything. I love all the sweet comments, many more than I can ever mention, I made a list of 13 sweet ones I received this past week and that barely brushes the surface. I also love the fun memes and contests and auditions, I’ve met such wonderful people through them and it’s great for traffic as well. Ah Lil Duck Duck, I remember doing something along those very lines, it was much like a time capsule putting a bunch of memiors in a box and allow the next generation to come along and find them and to their happy surprise to find different items that belonged to different family members of the past.
It does add to some happy times indeed.
